Sunday 26 June 2011. We visited a couple of gardens open under the National Gardens Scheme. Today Iâ d thoroughly recommend it â a chance to wander around gardens that are normally not open to the public and to give a few pounds to thoroughly good causes in the process. And to drink tea and eat fine cake. This is the fountain at Clinton Lodge. Designed by William Pye. We now have serious fountain envy. Graybo typed this at 6:49 pm. 124; | click here to comment. Monday 20 March 2017. Satay chicken noodles with shredded cavalo nero. This recipe is from the “everyday meals” section of the February 2017 Waitrose magazine. It was so badly written that I couldn’t bear the thought of putting it in my recipe files as-is, and vowed to re-write it. Come on Waitrose, who would weigh peanut butter? Serves 2, generously. The recipe claims 10 minutes to prepare, 10 minutes to cook. My experience – at least double the prep time. 2 tablespoons soy sauce. 1 large onion, cut int...

Monday 8 March 2010. Tom: I was thinking about Domburg. What were you thinking about? Tom: I was thinking about when we saw Kraak en Smaak. Me: Well, we actually saw them in Middelburg, in the Abdijplein. But it isn’t far from Domburg. Tom: Yes, that’s right. [pause] Abdijplein is a funny word. It’s double Dutch! Thursday 26 July 2007. Just occasionally, though, something comes along to restore my faith. This week that has happened twice. The first instance was the documentary Absolute Zero. On the subject of cold and based on the book by Tom Shachtman, who is clearly barking mad, particularly when trying to recreate very dangerous historical scientific experiments. The second instance was tonight’s programme Atom. Why did that need fictional characters and drama, including an aircraft saved by a hero geologist?

Thursday 23 July 2009. Why I’m not convinced by the swine flu stats. Hels and Tom both have colds. I’ve had a bit of a sore throat, but it hasn’t come to anything. So we are carrying on life pretty much as normal. Hels has taken a little time off work (heavy colds tend to knock her down a bit anyway due to previous illnesses in her 20s). But we are not putting ourselves into quarantine. Are we getting false information and is the Government making decisions based on that? Graybo typed this at 2:25 pm.

Friday 1 April 2016. Two recipes for gingerbread from my mother’s archive. Dug out by Dad. I’m going to have to try them both and see which works best. I’ve preserved the Imperial measurements. Ingredients for recipe 1:. 8 oz self raising flour. 4 oz black treacle. 4 oz golden syrup. 2 oz demerara sugar. 2 tbsp ground ginger. A pinch of salt. 25 fl oz milk. Melt the butter, syrup, treacle and sugar together in a pan – not too hot. Combine all the ingredients and pour into a greased loaf tin. Bake for 30 ...
