Rant of the day: June 2014
http://blotschersrant.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Rant of the day. Monday, 30 June 2014. One of the great advantages of being a teacher is having the whole of July as holiday (well, almost; I had to work today and will do so again tomorrow, but then I am off until 6 August). Because July is a great month for sport. So my fitness programme won't start until later in the week. Thereafter, I will be getting into serious shape. It also gives me lots to watch when I get back. And the tournament has reached the knock-out stage, it gets more interesting. Rose ...

Rant of the day
http://blotschersrant.blogspot.com/2015/05/a-silly-law-danish-government-like-many.html
Rant of the day. Tuesday, 19 May 2015. The Danish Government, like many others, has long been worried about the possibility (not documented, as far as I know) of rampant knife crime. So, about 10 years ago, it introduced a law banning various types of knife from sale. In particular, flick or Stanley knives that can be hidden. This is absurd. It is what comes from having politicians anxious to whip up a frenzy about (supposed) crime. Posted by Walter Blotscher. 20 May 2015 at 15:35. Get views on the news.

Rant of the day: December 2014
http://blotschersrant.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Rant of the day. Saturday, 13 December 2014. Denmark formally abolished the death penalty in 1930; though the last execution (a beheading) in fact occurred way back in 1892. However, after the trauma of the German occupation during the second world war, Parliament reintroduced the death penalty in 1945, and with retrospective effect. 78 Danish citizens were sentenced to death; yet 32 were later pardoned. Why? Posted by Walter Blotscher. Links to this post. Friday, 12 December 2014. Links to this post.

Rant of the day. Friday, 23 May 2014. I am off to the U.K. tomorrow morning for 10 days. I will visit my Mum. And go on my annual walking holiday. In the Lake District. So no blogging before early June. Posted by Walter Blotscher. Links to this post. Thursday, 22 May 2014. NOT GOOD AT MEASURING. How can that be? Fortunately, someone realised that there was a problem before the trains were delivered. But the story does highlight some of the difficulties of separating railway infrastructure from operat...

Rant of the day. Thursday, 30 April 2015. MORTGAGE INTEREST RATES (4). Is there no end to the decline in interest rates. I have today received a letter, telling me that the interest rates for the next six months on the two loans on our house (30 years, interest only for the first 10) are 0.86% and a staggering 0.51% respectively. Great for us; not so good if you are a pensioner living on savings. Posted by Walter Blotscher. Links to this post. Wednesday, 29 April 2015. Posted by Walter Blotscher. Figures...

Rant of the day. Monday, 31 March 2014. The Queen of Denmark. Posted by Walter Blotscher. Links to this post. Sunday, 30 March 2014. This year will have a lot of anniversaries for Denmark, not least the psychological one of 1864 (see a later post). But today is a special one for a small minority of people; 200 years ago today, Denmark emancipated its Jews. Posted by Walter Blotscher. Links to this post. Saturday, 29 March 2014. Rant of the day: October 2014
http://blotschersrant.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Rant of the day. Friday, 31 October 2014. We tend to think of drones as military bits of kit, that are used in far away places such as Afghanistan and Pakistan. However, technology is technology; and once the genie is out of the bottle, it is hard to put it back in. The man in question, who was fined kr.3,500, had got his drone to fly around his neighbourhood and look in through people's windows. It was the first such fine in Denmark; I suspect there will be many more in the future. Links to this post.

Rant of the day: February 2014
http://blotschersrant.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
Rant of the day. Friday, 28 February 2014. My wife and I spent five days in Rome last week. I haven't blogged on it before now, since I have spent most of this week digesting it. However, like the Chinese Communist Party, the Popes were masters at taking a long view. Claims were never abandoned, even if they could not be supported for hundreds of years. An ever increasing number of people found that it made more sense to worship one God than many, bringing new customers. Islam helped. Links to this post.

Rant of the day
http://blotschersrant.blogspot.com/2015/05/ukip-anti-e.html
Rant of the day. Monday, 18 May 2015. The anti-E.U., anti-immigrant, U.K. Independence Party harvested almost 4 million votes in the recent U.K. general election. But won only one seat. Since then, it has gone into a downward spiral. The problem is that UKIP is essentially a 1-man show. British political parties, unlike their continental counterparts tend to be "broad churches", encompassing a wide spectrum of views. However, the quid pro quo for this is that policy differences have to be debated int...

http://blotschersrant.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Rant of the day. Tuesday, 31 March 2015. When I was growing up, one of the big political talking points was the overproduction of food in the E.U. What had started as a sensible policy in the post-war world, namely that Europe's citizens should have enough to eat - had become a victim of its own success. Scarcity of product had been replaced with mountains of butter, and lakes of wine. Good news for farmers? Posted by Walter Blotscher. Links to this post. Monday, 30 March 2015. Was to get some sort of mo...
