Gabrielle Yates Outdoor Trainer. Musings of an outdoor lover. Ups and Downs of the South Downs Way 50. WOW just discovered this that I didn’t post back in April this year from the South Downs 50. Judging from last weeks event, I go a lot by feelings and my mental state as this post is rather in the same vein. You have probably read already many others blogs about the event, so you probably already know the stats. But here they are again. 50 miles/80 km course along the South Downs Way. Everything leading...

Gabrielle Yates Outdoor Trainer. Musings of an outdoor lover. How does it feel? Giving it a go Ultra Coastal Trail Series Endurance Life →. Last long Run done and dusted before marathon, about 22 miles. Man did it hurt. I know training for these events are never going to be like a walk in the park, but I really did feel pain at the weekend. Having to back track 1 1/2 miles did’t help especially as i’d already ran 15 miles by then. Oh well all part of the fun. How does it feel? I'll have done 55km by...

Gabrielle Yates Outdoor Trainer. Musings of an outdoor lover. Newer posts →. Giving it a go Ultra Coastal Trail Series Endurance Life. As I write from my bed about yesterday’s event (bed due to the fact I can barely walk not because I am lazy) I am already mulling over next year’s challenge. For those who aren’t sure, a Marathon is normally 26.2 miles and yes those extra few miles hurt especially with hills thrown in. I did the ‘Marathon’ 29 miler distance in 7 hours 34 minutes. Race day couldn’t h...

Gabrielle Yates Outdoor Trainer. Musings of an outdoor lover. Giving it a go Ultra Coastal Trail Series Endurance Life. Plank effect →. First 50 km Ultra New Forest Running Festival. Running an ultra whether it’s a local 50 km or world renowned Marathon des Sables takes determination, motivation and quite a lot of crazy with a sprinkling of nuts. But instead of wallowing in self pity or deciding that Ultras just weren’t my thing I entered myself into another race. I’ve managed to crack at least 80%...

Gabrielle Yates Outdoor Trainer. Musings of an outdoor lover. Butser Hill jaunt →. A fellow Brit, who, with his calm and easy-going nature, took his usual tactics to the 5000m today. We sat on the edge of our chairs watching Mo Farahs every move, urging him to push. And he did just that, winding it right up on the last 300 metres to take a well deserved Gold for us and a place as the Greatest in the World. Brilliant to have such talent in this country, inspiring and a real pleasure to watch. Nervous....

Gabrielle Yates Outdoor Trainer. Musings of an outdoor lover. Butser Hill Challenge 2011 →. So what do I do on days off, relax maybe, shop hmm, nope I head outdoors with good running bud (Dave.B aka speedy D). In preparation for the up and coming Butser Hill Challenge on the 25th September 2011, we trundelled up for our second try at conquering the mighty hills at Queen Elizabeth Country Park. The top didn’t seem close enough, but once there the flat was welcomed by our legs and lungs. Next the lovely lo...

Gabrielle Yates Outdoor Trainer. Musings of an outdoor lover. Still going strong →. Portsmouth Coastal Half Marathon. So I got my teeth into it.and not just the energy bars afterwards, which were yummy by the way. Feeling nervous for the whole week leading up to the Race, wondering what I’ll be like in terms of form and time. Constantly looking at BBC news for the weather report, praying for no rain or wind. Tapered well enough and rested as much as I can, being a fidget pants this doesn’t come easy.

Gabrielle Yates Outdoor Trainer. Musings of an outdoor lover. Sometimes I set myself little challenges,. Ones that are manageable with time, life constraints and other life goals. Normally I don’t advertise these small triumphs but for whatever reason I changed my mind for this months (February). I thought that by sharing I would make myself more accountable and perhaps get others to try the same, thus motivating each other to achieve a common goal. Basically the challenge was to get a Personal Best.
