Wednesday, October 22, 2014. Not the greatest light for photos but was "great" to see this Great Horned Owl while I was going for a jeep ride. It flew off but I relocated it a minute later. This brave blue jay was successful at running off the owl. What is going on with the Prickly Pears? Lots of young turkeys around. Looks like another owl but just a log :). These are the ever diligent harvester ants. Wish I knew what kind of flower this is. What kind of spider is this? A western Scrub Jay!

Friday, April 11, 2014. Off to Israel I went with 200 pounds of homemade blankets and quilts to distribute to the needy! I also enjoyed seeing birds everywhere I went and here are some that I managed to photograph. First is the common myna - and by the way I did notice that each one seemed to have a different song. This is the Hoopoe, the state bird of Israel! I loved these guys most of all. The rose-ringed parakeets were also a pretty common sight. This is the Spectacled bulbul, aka yellow vented bulbul.

Tuesday, May 29, 2012. Spring meeting in P.A. I spent the day at Corpus Christi birding hotspots, including the famous Blucher Park, the Packery Channel, and of course Paradise Pond in Port Aransas. It is a wonderful place to be during the peak of the bird migration! Here is a Canada Warbler. I was surprised to learn that the Great Kiskadee is common here! This is my first view of a Cooper's Hawk nest. If you look close you can see one sitting on the nest. This beautiful guy is a great crested flycatcher.

Friday, September 21, 2012. Photos from Oklahoma and more. This was my first American Goldfinch in Mom's Illinois yard. Off to Oklahoma, where I enjoyed watching the birds and butterflies from Mom's pink room. I think this is a variation of Spicebush Swallowtail. This is the beautiful Gulf Fritillary. The Zinnia is beautiful too! Nice to see the Catbird in the yard! Red breasted nuthatches are here early this fall. A two bluebird day is a good day. Amazing that they can survive in drought. Monday, April 13, 2015. Some birds and scenes from Israel recently. I took toooo many photos but enjoyed them all. Here is birding Israel 101. most of these were taken around the Knesset gardens and Jerusalem Bird Observatory. Here is a Hooded Crow. During my tour of the Knesset, I had the pleasure of seeing the Israel Declaration of Independence Scroll. Love this bird, the yellow vented bulbul. This is the SE corner, the ancient City of David area. He is a stunning little guy. And the Eurasian Jay.
