Wildlife watching around Melbourne #GFNP. Listen to a pair of Sooty Owls duet on the northern edge of Bunyip State Park. What do you need? 8211; warm clothes – in the hills around Melbourne the temperature can drop away very quickly, even in the warmer months. 8211; Binoculars – even when its dark it is amazing how much extra detail you can see with binoculars. Also very good for watching stags and hollows right on dusk. Leadbeater’s Possum in regrowth near Powelltown. A few hints for getting the most ou...

diary of a suburban gardener: how the garden's changed me
http://slowgardener.blogspot.com/2015/06/how-gardens-changed-me.html
Diary of a suburban gardener. Now where did I leave my secateurs? I started this blog in 2008. It started mainly as a way of tracking the evolution of my dry garden, and that led to an interest in photography and in the creatures that live in the garden. It's still about the garden and wildlife, but now my passion is thinking about how we humans can learn to co-exist with wild animals and plants, especially in urban areas. Wednesday, 24 June 2015. How the garden's changed me. I learned about design, how ...

Jackwin 777: Australian Wood Duck
http://jackandelaine.blogspot.com/2015/07/australian-wood-duck.html
Wednesday, 29 July 2015. The Australian Wood Duck. Used to be called the Maned Duck. Yeah yeah. Right. They are always changing names. I discovered last weekend that the Black-winged Stilt is actually the White-headed Stilt. These following images of an accommodating [relatively] pair were taken on the Macalister River at Maffra. The male has a mane! Downside to the species:. Defecating everywhere [especially paddocks - can't be good for bovine or ovine health]. They are a pretty bird. It takes one moment.

Monday, 29 September 2014. When you are walking along very slowly keeping a lookout for all those birds in the treetops, you tend not to pay attention to what is at your feet. Besides, a stick is a stick. I was about 3 metres away when I noticed the stick and did a quick stop. Not often you see a stick as straight as this. Lowland Copperhead Austrelaps superbus. Even though he/she was warming up, there was still enough energy to flatten the neck. ID anyone? Monday, September 29, 2014. Gippsland has two t...

Saturday, 30 May 2015. NT Road Trip 2015: Part 02. Day 3 - Orroroo to Coward Springs. Red-kneed Dotterel Erythrogonys cinctus. Australian Spotted Crake Porzana fluminea. This crake was seen two mornings running just on the edge of the sedges and rushes and was totally unconcerned by my presence. On the second morning, with the rising sun behind me, I stood in the creek to get better photos, only ten metres away. A different reaction from the crakes of Maffra Swamp or Lake Guthridge. BLCA is an excellent ...

Tuesday, 31 March 2015. Birdlife East Gippsland had an outing to Burnt Bridge and Cherrytree east of Lakes Entrance yesterday for a morning of birdwatching. I was especially taken with Burnt Bridge. Answers as to what he/she is doing with the right foot on a postcard to . Perhaps the leg is injured. A little further on we spotted a second sea-eagle, maybe a first year juvenile bird with all the brown feathers. Magic f8 and be there! Tuesday, March 31, 2015. Tuesday, 24 March 2015. Jackwin 777: February 2015
http://jackandelaine.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, 22 February 2015. I was fascinated by the insect life on a small, fairly ephemeral pond on my block. I have no idea what their names are, but there was plenty of activity going on. The block currently has two beehives "in residence" so that accounts for one image. It is amazing that anywhere there is water, life follows and fairly sharpish, too. Damselflies mating [thank you JH and HW]. Sunday, February 22, 2015. Thursday, 19 February 2015. A Bevy of B-FDs. Alas, no crakes today. Hello, over here".

Wednesday, 28 January 2015. A drying wetland near Marlay Point. It was very enjoyable. I trust you will enjoy the images. Top to Bottom: Black Swans, Black-winged Stilt, Sharp-tailed Sandpipers. Sharpies buzzing Black Swans. Magic f8 and be there. Wednesday, January 28, 2015. Tuesday, 27 January 2015. Or rasping 'kzek kzek kzek' Morcombe. On take-off. But I was able to get some good images; by stealth. I also saw plenty of other birds. A selection below. Left to right: Dusky Moorhen, Latham's Snipe,.

Thanks for visiting www.gobirding.eu. Currently there are five parts to this site:. This section provides reference material - showing multiple photos of each species on a single page (normally one page per species). It aims to show the variation possible within each species, not just some token high quality images of textbook examples. Initially it includes species you might encounter in Europe and the text is biased towards my home location (Norfolk in England). The archives for 2007-2014. By popular d...

gobirding.eu Birding Diary
A diary of my birding activity covering highlights and photos from my birding adventures. Mainly Norfolk (UK), occasionally beyond. I might mention the odd thing that isn't avian, but for moth and other insect news check out my mothing diary. Wednesday, 29 July 2015. The last couple of months have involved a depressing lack of birding. OK, it wasn't all work and no pleasure - the lack of birding was in part been down to an excess of mothing. Ifts west provided some vis mig interest, while 4 Greenfinches.
