Pastor Steve's Study: January 2014
http://revsjbraun.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
My little corner of academia. Friday, January 31, 2014. Following when God leads. Maybe I'll take up that question sometime later.). Sunday, January 26, 2014. Our church began a 30 day prayer emphasis this morning. My pastor preached on the subject, challenging us as individual Christians, families, and as a church to renew and deepen our prayer lives for the next 30 days. With that in mind, though, let's make our prayers bigger. I challenge you to use prayer to stretch yourself. What's a big nee...Let t...

Pastor Steve's Study: April 2014
http://revsjbraun.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
My little corner of academia. Wednesday, April 23, 2014. It's amazing sometimes the way life derails even our best-laid plans. Thus, no blog posts for the past three weeks. Sure, it sounds like an excuse; after all, everyone's busy with the stuff of life. And, in fact, it probably is just an excuse. However, it gives me a chance for some theological ruminations. Read Mark 10:30 and James 1:2-4, in context please.). Thursday, April 3, 2014. The Apocrypha and the Hebrew canon. I will continue to read the A...

Pastor Steve's Study: May 2015
http://revsjbraun.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
My little corner of academia. Wednesday, May 27, 2015. My church is going to have a service of prayer for healing in a couple of weeks. This isn't a "healing service" as popularly imagined, where we expect to see immediate, miraculous cures during the service (although I wouldn't rule it out, since the Holy Spirit works as He wills). Rather, we are attempting to put into practice the passage in James 5:13-16 on prayers for the sick. When you read all of James, it becomes apparent that he doesn't believe ...

Pastor Steve's Study: December 2013
http://revsjbraun.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
My little corner of academia. Wednesday, December 18, 2013. The story of Christmas.and beyond. Why is the story of the birth of Jesus Christ so powerful? Babies are born every day. Some are even born into very prominent positions. Just this past year we saw the birth of a new prince of England, and the world watched and waited for him to be born. We all like to celebrate a birth, so the birth of Jesus certainly resonates on that level. Wednesday, December 11, 2013. What I have scheduled to do are all goo...

Pastor Steve's Study: October 2013
http://revsjbraun.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
My little corner of academia. Wednesday, October 30, 2013. A curious bit of timing. As I was driving my daughter to school today, the radio station I listen to in the morning was having a discussion about the decision by a school in New Jersey to ban any "religious" Christmas music in their "holiday" concert. Amusingly, this was said to be done in the name of "diversity." I haven't yet figured out how you create more diversity by banning an entire cultural expression. I'm no Halloween spoilsport. I d...

Pastor Steve's Study: February 2014
http://revsjbraun.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
My little corner of academia. Thursday, February 27, 2014. Through the Bible in a Year-just checking in! For those of you who, like me, have decided to read through the Bible this year, I just want to give you some encouragement. At this point in your reading, depending on what plan you're following, you've probably gotten through one of the toughest stretches of reading in Leviticus and Numbers. If you made it through, congratulations! If you have fallen behind a bit, don't get discouraged and quit!

Pastor Steve's Study: March 2014
http://revsjbraun.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
My little corner of academia. Wednesday, March 26, 2014. The flaw in modern philosophies. Reading the "Comments" section under many online articles can be very entertaining. Most of the time it seems like commenters are just like little kids on the playground- "You're stupid! Yeah, well, you're stupider! I know I am, but what are you? I don't have space here to counter all of those ideas, except to say that anyone who thinks about it will see that none of these solutions has worked. We've raised educ...
