Department of Sociology, Goa University. Friday, July 25, 2008. We returned from our workshop to usual lectures feeling happy to be young film- makers.Today as we were having a session on blogging, the net got disconnected. Disappointed we began watching our films and all we could get was enthusiasm that was lost a few seconds ago.We saw a small dst "Encountering Mario" by Ms. Pamela D'Mello. It was a great learning experience. Links to this post. Wednesday, July 23, 2008. Day 5: Curtain Call. Everyone r...

Taking from my last post regarding my experiments in mobile blogging, today i was called upon to document the performances of pre-schoolers at my little girl's school. The performances were amazing for the 3 to 5 year olds. Pictured here, in the post event celebration snack, is my princess, who performed on stage for the first time! Posted with Nokia 5800 and mobile blogging tools). Links to this post. Links to this post.

Dabbling in Multimedia: Unethical Publishing Practices in India - Gasper DeSouza - Photojournalist, Goa India
http://dabblinginmultimedia.blogspot.com/2009/07/unethical-publishing-practices-in-india.html
Saturday, July 4, 2009. Unethical Publishing Practices in India. I received a call from Better Photography magazine on Friday July 3, with an urgent requirement of a top-quality image that "defined Goa" and would "make photographers want to come to this coastal tourist state in western India." The image was to go with an article on Goa in the magazine. After a quick email interaction (reproduced below), I was shocked to learn they wanted the images for free! As a professional working in the field, I beli...

Dabbling in Multimedia: April 2009 - Gasper DeSouza - Photojournalist, Goa India
http://dabblinginmultimedia.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Friday, April 10, 2009. Slice of Life: Cleaning Fish (in 30secs). Created this "Slice of Life" 30sec video, on the trot, in less than 30 minutes. I've gone real low tech on this one, experimenting with a Nokia 5800 mobile phone camera and Movie Maker for sequence edits. The video sequences were shot in about 3 minutes and then edited. I think this proves we do not need "pro" equipment to get started with learning. Once the skills come, the 5DMkIIs will follow:-). Links to this post. Follow me on Twitter.

Thursday, July 31, 2008. Time to sink or swim. 8 months ago, I took a major decision that was to change the course of my life. I calmly left a secure job at a leading newspaper in Goa to begin dabbling in multimedia journalism. It must look crazy to those around me, specially given that “paying” newspaper jobs are not easy to come by. And then, I gave that up to do what? But the deed was done. The monthly pay was no more. I had chosen my own destiny. Now it was time to sink or swim. Links to this post.

Jottings from Pamela D’Mello. From the keyboard of a journalist in Goa, India…. Bombay before the British. August 2009/The Asian Age. Thursday, October 30, 2008. Hard work and commitment do pay off. Ten months ago, on Jan 1, 2008 I took the rather drastic decision of quitting my secure job at a local newspaper and striking it off as a freelancer, dabbling in multimedia and new media tools. To conduct Digital Storytelling (DST) workshops in the community - thus sharing our own knowledge in visual literacy. At a time when newspapers in the West are going through bad times.
