The Stereo Club: The Very, Very Rare Sony CDP 650ESD CD Player
http://thestereoclub.blogspot.com/2009/11/very-very-rare-sony-cdp-650esd-cd.html
Adventures in High Fidelity from Austin, Texas. Sunday, November 15, 2009. The Very, Very Rare Sony CDP 650ESD CD Player. There is almost no information on this player on the web. For comparison purposes here is the write up on a Sony CDP 302. From '85 and the very similar Sony CDP 520ES. The transport is complex:. The drawer action was a bit slow and it skipped occasionally, so we opened the bottom:. And a nod of appreciation to Sony, c. 1986. This is a spectacularly designed and built player. I am ...

The Stereo Club: Motorcycle Girl
http://thestereoclub.blogspot.com/2010/02/motorcycle-girl.html
Adventures in High Fidelity from Austin, Texas. Sunday, February 14, 2010. Yeah, I have been slackin' on the blog, these days, life has intervened a bit. The posts are stacking up like speakers in my closet. As a parting shot here is an earlier incarnation of the band sharing the stage with Selma Hayek and a snake. Yowza Now that's what I call a show! The band contributed 3 songs to Robert Rodriguez' remake of Desperado in '95, and Tito scored the soundtrack. Hey guy, what happened to this blog? Pops Res...

The Stereo Club: The Sony CDP 520ES CD Player
http://thestereoclub.blogspot.com/2009/01/sony-cdp-520es-cd-player.html
Adventures in High Fidelity from Austin, Texas. Tuesday, January 6, 2009. The Sony CDP 520ES CD Player. This is just too rich. Here is a photo of the innards of this $600 list, vintage 1985 cd player:. Hmm, does this look familiar? It is a dead ringer for the innards of the non-Esprit CDP 302 cd player. Documented a few days ago. The exterior is also identical, save the name. Whatever could justify the Esprit badge? Could it be. why yes it is. Here tucked in the corner are a few differences:. UPDATE: I j...

The Stereo Club: Li' Mar: Making the Best of a Difficult Situation
http://thestereoclub.blogspot.com/2009/12/li-mar-making-best-of-difficult.html
Adventures in High Fidelity from Austin, Texas. Sunday, December 6, 2009. Li' Mar: Making the Best of a Difficult Situation. Ahh, we are back to that troublesome little Marantz, are we? Yep She has not been forgotten, although it has been tough to tell from this blog. I have been avoiding her. In our last adventure. We made some progress by pulling a wobbly post off the preamp board. That solved a problem, but progress always seems to be followed by a setback with this amp. Way back in August. Godar USA ...

The Stereo Club: The Pioneer PD 5010
http://thestereoclub.blogspot.com/2009/12/pioneer-pd-5010.html
Adventures in High Fidelity from Austin, Texas. Sunday, December 6, 2009. The Pioneer PD 5010. This CD player was built in 1986 and retailed for $400. It is nicely built, but not nearly as sophisticated as the Sony CDP 650ESD. That graced these pages recently. This post is mostly an excuse to share this link. And this second link. These sites contain pretty much identical lists of cd players and identifies their DACs and transports. Cool, but why? Thanks for the tech information, it guided my purchase :).

The Stereo Club: The Perils of Li'l Mar: Like Pulling Teeth
http://thestereoclub.blogspot.com/2009/10/perils-of-lil-mar-like-pulling-teeth.html
Adventures in High Fidelity from Austin, Texas. Friday, October 2, 2009. The Perils of Li'l Mar: Like Pulling Teeth. In our last episode things were looking up. As usual, in my efforts to restore the Marantz 4220 receiver. The sliders had been clipped and the power switch bypassed, the unfortunate result of years of actual use. Mar evidently lived in a dorm room, not a closet shelf. And unfortunately, despite all my efforts, my work was not done. The ground post was pulled:. The Stereo Club Links. Zaph A...

The Stereo Club: Snap Out of It!
http://thestereoclub.blogspot.com/2010/11/snap-out-of-it.html
Adventures in High Fidelity from Austin, Texas. Friday, November 26, 2010. Snap Out of It! Life has taken a few twists and turns around The Stereo Club and the blog has suffered. The last post was way last February, and blogging was sparse for months before that. That's just pathetic. And then it hit me:. Thanks, I needed that. Remarkably, this album is titled 'Take Me Home'. On the other hand, this Cher was just scary:. What was she thinking? If you know, please don't tell me. Good to have you back!

The Stereo Club: September 2009
http://thestereoclub.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Adventures in High Fidelity from Austin, Texas. Tuesday, September 29, 2009. Whack for My Daddy-o. For your listening pleasure here are several versions of Whiskey in the Jar. First up is the original rock-ified version by Thin Lizzy. Do not mistake Eric Bell's antics for a bona fide attempt at music simulation. We want to see fingers actually playing notes! The studio version by Metallica is absolutely great, but what I believe is the official video. Links to this post. Sunday, September 27, 2009. The s...
