http://puzzlingoverpound.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
My attempts to make sense of Modern and Contemporary Poetry. Monday, February 28, 2011. Tennyson's Poetry is Music to My Ears! I first encountered Alfred Lord Tennyson last fall when my kind of embarrassing family band, 3 Skuzins and a Funkle, learned a rendition of his poem "Crossing the Bar.". PS I thought it would be fun to let you listen to our version of “Crossing the Bar” because I believe poetry can absolutely be enjoyed as music. Sunday, February 20, 2011. Poem for a Hurting World. Introduction to Poetry: Another Simic Poem

Tuesday, April 26, 2011. Memories of the Future. Also is from That Little Something. It portray images that Simic frequently uses: war and death. Charles Simic uses juxtapositions and opposites to make a contrast that burns an image into the readers mind. The feelings that Simic produces come from real experience, making his work that much more meaningful. This essay describes this poem a little deeper. Charles Simic’s “Memories of the Future”: The Inherent Destructiveness of Humanity. The title of the p...

Introduction to Poetry: Thinking about "Cloud of Witnesses" by G.C. Waldrep
http://nlkenglish.blogspot.com/2011/04/thinking-about-cloud-of-witness-by-gc.html
Monday, April 4, 2011. Thinking about "Cloud of Witnesses" by G.C. Waldrep. In continuing to read Waldrep's poems in his collection titled Disclamor,. I took particular interest in the work " Cloud of Witnesses. While most of the poem responds to obscurities and symbolism, he sticks to a very modern approach to writing. There is also an interesting spacing and line-break arrangement. These examples are shown below. And I think the. Will ring. It always has. It is not ashamed of this, .". I agree with you...

Modern Poetry: Hotel d'Avignon - an analysis
http://gwenstephan-modernpoetry.blogspot.com/2011/04/hotel-davignon-analysis.html
Monday, April 4, 2011. Hotel d'Avignon - an analysis. For our next assignment, we were told to deeply study another Waldrep poem that was not a Battery poem. I chose to look at Hotel d'Avignon because I felt a connection with the imagery and it was one of the poems in "Disclamor" that really captured my imagination. A few words I looked up or translated:. Patois - something like a regional dialect, or the jargon/slang of a particular region. And the persona's mother. 2nd line - "If I could find the porti...

blogspot4english: Battery Bravo (Second)
http://blogspot4english.blogspot.com/2011/04/battery-bravo-second.html
Monday, April 4, 2011. When trying to analyze this poem, I first reread it and then used google to find some background information. First I typed in a couple of words from the poem of which I wasn't sure (ex. colonnades which means what it seems that it should). Next I searched Battery Bravo. I found a Marines site at http:/ www.bravobatteryiniraq.com/. The sign is mostly unreadable, but it clearly mentions the NIKE missile which is also discussed in the poem.
