I was walking the dog a few days ago by Dickinson Creek, a stream that runs next to our property. I noticed a large smoky colored fishfly fluttering along the edge of the water. It was conspicious in that it had large white patches on its wings. This suggested a visual component in their mating system. I think the species is Nigronia serricornis. Wednesday, June 11, 2008.

The Angry Lab Rat. Just your average rodent working for an evil biotech company, making comments on the state of science and technology, and occasionally going off on seemingly random tangents that are sure to change your life. Thursday, November 29, 2007. Several years ago I had a teenage relative come stay with us for a week or so. Forgetting how very horny the average teenage boy is (am I really that old? Part-way through his visit, I discovered some very. But even that wasn't the end. Thursday, July 10, 2008. This site is a bit good for listening to some random music and brings a tear to the eye for the lost golden age of the mixtape. Dos Mas, Por Favor. Big Fat Hairy Liar. It's all true. Over 6ft tall, too much cerveza and ham and cheese sandwiches while i was away, a big beard and no blog posts for some time. With muxloe were all great. Going into work was interesting - it felt like i was on an excursion into a western office. Now its all starting to be the routine again. Or look at...

Monday, September 24, 2007. Why our cells are unlikely to evolve. Why is it that this principle can not be applied to our own cells? Simply put, because the fate of our own cells is interconnected, a small change in the genome could mean disaster for the other ones. The reason why our own cells do not evolve in our lifetime (under normal circumstances) is discussed in an article by Pepper et al., soon to be published in PLoS computational biology. An article on the Nature website. This blog post has also...
