After Kristallnacht the Central British Fund for German Jewry in Britain realised that lives had to be saved. Within four weeks they lobbied the British government, raised funds to get the children out of Germany and ran the first train. This rescue became known as the Kindertransport. The Kindertransport children came to England alone because the British Government agreed to take them but not their parents. For many of the children it was the final goodbye. The majority of them were never reunited with their families who were murdered in concentration camps.
