GOLD Guyana 2011: Day 2 and 3 in Charity

http://goldguyana.blogspot.com/2011/08/day-2-and-3-in-charity.html

Monday, 8 August 2011. Day 2 and 3 in Charity. Day 2 started with morning chores after a very early rise (not sure why Guides everywhere get up at 5am on camp). When it was a little cooler we played some games outside, the girls really enjoyed this, they like learning new songs and games and they even taught us some which was great to see that their confidence has grown. GOLD team litter picking. The girls worked very hard and we managed to clear a good section of the main street, definitely noticeable.

GOLD Guyana 2011: Exploring Georgetown Part 2

http://goldguyana.blogspot.com/2011/08/exploring-georgetown-part-2.html

Monday, 8 August 2011. Exploring Georgetown Part 2. After an action packed week in Charity being all environmental, it was time to explore again! Today (Sunday), we decided we would visit the Lighthouse, the Umana Yana, Seawall and even get some geocaching done. Tall order I hear you say.well be surprised we managed all that aaaand had a 'ladies that do lunch' moment in a posh hotel! Next stop was the Umana Yana, this is Wai Wai for 'meeting place of the people', it is a 55ft tall thatched roof hut (know...

A good week, we are all settling in, adjusting to the heat, getting used to the Mozzy bites but are all having a fantastic time. Claire at Steel Band. Today is our only Saturday off so tour guide Lizzy has organised a trip to the swimming pool centre which sounds fun, although sat here writing this there is quite heavy rain outside, although it is still hot so welc...

GOLD Guyana 2011: Off t' Kaieteur :)

http://goldguyana.blogspot.com/2011/08/off-t-kaieteur.html

Sunday, 14 August 2011. Off t' Kaieteur :). Today we visited Kaieteur, which is a waterfall on the Potaro River in central Guyana. The waterfall is the largest single drop waterfall with a height of 251 metres. The Potaro river empties into the Essequibo, which is one of the longest and widest rivers in South America. It was discovered by Charles Barrington Brown in 1870, who was a British geologist appointed as a surveyor to the colony of British Guiana (Guyana),. Everything a travelling Guider needs!

GOLD Guyana 2011: First day in Charity

http://goldguyana.blogspot.com/2011/08/first-day-in-charity.html

Monday, 8 August 2011. First day in Charity. Sara had warned up the journey was likely to take anywhere between 3 and 6 hours so we had books, cards and things to do. The ferry journey across the river was really pretty, we passed quite a lot of islands (there are 365 islands, although not all are habited). It was a good journey and we chatted with the girls, most of whom were experiencing this for the first time too. Old style chalk boards. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Gold Russia 2011: Back from Camp!

http://goldrussia2011.blogspot.com/2011/08/back-from-camp.html

Wednesday, 10 August 2011. We arrived back from camp yesterday after an epic 9 nights of camping. We had a blast! We loved meeting all the participants of the camp from Ufa District. Trainings were a success and we trained about 70 people in total. We trained for 4 and a half hours each day and took part in the camp programme including the evening entertainment! Both the camp food and the camp toilets were an experience and gave us lots of laughs. 11 August 2011 at 03:33. Enjoy every moment of it! Simple...

Gold Russia 2011: We love Russia!!!!!!!!

http://goldrussia2011.blogspot.com/2011/07/we-love-russia.html

Saturday, 30 July 2011. It's Emily and Caz here from the outskirts of Ufa in Dema! As you can see from Clare and Jenni's posts we have been busy busy busy! The last few days we have been exploring the city of Ufa with our homestay family. We are staying with a Girl Scout named Aliya who is so sweet and only 14 years old and her mum Albina. They are so kind to us, they have made us so welcome it's been magical! Last night we headed out to the clubs in Ufa, unfortunately we were too skreffy to get in!

Gold Russia 2011: More watermelon?

http://goldrussia2011.blogspot.com/2011/07/more-watermelon.html

Friday, 29 July 2011. So, homestay you say? I think myself and Clare are staying with one of the nicest families ever! Our mum, Tatiana, is a Guide Leader and Doctor, and her daughter, Nastya, 16/17 is in our equivilent of Senior Section. They live in a beautiful appartment on the 9th floor. They also have a 'very fluffy cat'- called Markus! When we arrived we were fed yummy chicken and potatoes, salad and watermelon for dessert. Since we showed our enthusiasm for watermelon- it just hasn't stopped!

Thursday, 28 July 2011. Clare and Jenni here writing you this blog from our host family's lush appartment! We arrived in Ufa yesterday after a flight from Kazan. Let's pick up from where we left off. By the time we got to bed at 3:45, it was starting to get light, and even at that time of night, it was BOILING hot! In the afternoon it was decided we should skip training and instead see the beautiful sights of Kazan! We stopped at a cafe for traditional Tatar cuisine- Borsch, meat and potato pie, and Yak-...

Gold Russia 2011: Girls, come back now, please.

http://goldrussia2011.blogspot.com/2011/07/girls-come-back-now-please.html

Saturday, 30 July 2011. Girls, come back now, please. Jenni here again- making the most of internet in our homestay before we head off to camp on monday! Since the other members of the team don't have access to the blog as often as myself and Clare do I thought I'd briefly fill you in on our Ufa adventures. So following on since the last couple of posts we have had many a laughs here in Ufa city. This was Ufa's first press conference and it would seem that it was a success! The girls were so annoyed!

http://goldrussia2011.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, 31 July 2011. Would you like a dirty bath? This is Clare saying bye for a week on behalf of the team - we're setting off for camp this evening, huzzah! Today, we had a lovely relaxing end to our home stay. All our host families (and assorted friends and relations) went on a 2-hour drive to a natural spring/spa resort somewhere probably south-west of Ufa (judging by the sun! We then had a quick splash in an even colder and very salty pool. Now we're briefly at home before setting off on camp with ...

GOLD Guyana 2013

Monday, 12 August 2013. This is goodnight but not goodbye. Sorry for not blogging yesterday; we had a very busy, fun day! In the morning Deborah and Amelia washed a mountain of clothes and consequently had to be very creative with peg use and line space when hanging it all out to dry. The rest of the team sat and chatted in the garden; it was really lovely because the sun was shining and the hummingbirds were out. We got back to Foreshaw quite late and did our final trash and treasure session of the proj...
