Friday, December 30, 2011. So I am less then a week away from my surgery. Feeling a little anxious. I did have a very amazing week this week though that I would like to share. I celebrated my 33rd birthday, Happy Birthday to me! My coworkers surprised me with the most amazing cake ever. I included a picture above :). Talk about a HUGE source of encouragement! BRCA and Choosing LIFE! December 27, 2011 in Journeys. I missed blogging on the one year anniversary of my exchange (12/21) because I was busy and my BRCA life has pretty much been put on the back burner (yippee! It’s amazing how that happens….) Something that was such a huge part of my life for two years has now taken a back seat. That’s a good thing as it means that real life is what I’m focusing on now. Peace of mind is worth all that I’ve been through and all that I feel now. Stay strong ladies….

Monday, October 1, 2012. Today is October first. I love October, it's my favorite month. I love the cooler weather, the pumpkin taste in everything around, and just fall in general. This October is especially meaningful as it makes one year since I discovered I carry the BRCA 1 gene. Kind of ironic that I found out during Breast Cancer Awareness month. Monday, June 20, 2011. So, I'm a big fat loser. My surveillance-versary was June 10th! I guess in the midst of not obsessing over my high-risk, I stopped thinking a little too much about it! So at the risk of being accused of having a defeatist attitude (again) here is what I have accomplished:. 1 I had one Mammogram. 2 I had one MRI. 3 I had one Biopsy. 4 I performed at least one self breast exam each month (probably 2 realistically). 6 I tested for the BRCA gene. 7 I told my story. 15 I joined a gym an...

Saturday, June 18, 2011. So, I just realized, it's nearly July. July to many people is Independence Day, summer vacation, barbeque's, camping, 90 degree weather, boating, ridiculous air conditioning bills. To me July is my annual mammogram. Barring any major catastrophe, I am a completed woman again. I have one more appointment with Dr. S and it is really only for him to take his "after" pictures of his masterpiece, or rather masterpieces since I do have two boobies! I went in and the doctor asked me if I wanted more pink or brown in my tattoos. What a question! It is fantastic&#46...

Then I discovered my ex, THE ex's, wife (whom I adore) was diagnosed with BC AND is High Risk only to further learn she is BRCA . Talk about close to home. Then I became curious:. She wanted to be a part of the event and together the three of us conquered the 5K (although walking in Detroit with 40,000 other participants, we likely walked at least 5 miles!
