Cody's RV-14A Project: Sections 33 & 34 - Rudder & Brake Systems and Flap Actuation
http://transientair.blogspot.com/2015/03/sections-33-34-rudder-brake-systems-and.html
Saturday, March 7, 2015. Sections 33 and 34 - Rudder and Brake Systems and Flap Actuation. Build Hours Added Since Last Post: 18.0. Sections 33 and 34 flew by in no time! Well, at least the finishing up parts of Section 33. I had previously done a lot of the prep work for the brake pedals about a month ago. Why you ask? Here's a shot of the brake pedals after they were anodized. Pretty good, right? After the prep work, it was no sweat mounting the pedals and connecting the brake lines. There you have it!

Cody's RV-14A Project: Aft Fuselage Attach -- Section 30
http://transientair.blogspot.com/2015/02/aft-fuselage-attach-section-30.html
Tuesday, February 10, 2015. Aft Fuselage Attach - Section 30. Build Hours Added Since Last Post: 22.5. What a difference a section makes! For the first time since commencing the build nearly two years ago, two sub-kits met. The tail cone / empennage finally met the forward fuselage. I'd like to say that it came together like that scene in 2001: A Space Odyssey. Once I had the bottom positioned and fixed, I was able to continue the rest of the joining. I used every 3/32 cleco in my arsenal. Building Hours...

Cody's RV-14A Project: January 2014
http://transientair.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Saturday, January 18, 2014. Section 6 - the Vertical Stabilizer. Build Hours Added Since Last Post: 16.5. The empennage kit starts with the building of the vertical stabilizer. The above snapshot of the manual shows the structure of the vertical stabilizer. It looks like a rather simple design at first blush, but when I pulled out the pieces for assembly, I quickly realized just how strong this tail was designed to be. Each of the pieces- including the skin- is extra strength material. Well, shame on me!

Thursday, May 15, 2014. Section 12 - Empennage Fairings (complete- mostly). Build Hours Added Since Last Post: 36.5. Unfortunately for you and my records, I neglected to snap any pictures during the process. This is primarily due to the fact that fiberglass work is messy, dusty, and generally unpleasant. Cody's RV-14A Project: April 2015
http://transientair.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, April 7, 2015. Section 37 - Roll Over Structure. Build Hours Added Since Last Post: 22.0 (est.). I skipped Section 36, which has the builder install the elevator and aileron push-rods, in favor of finishing out the air frame's structure. Section 37 is the last section of the forward fuselage sub-kit. Woohoo! Of course there are a few items in addition to Section 36 that I need to go back to, but it's quite amazing how fast this kit seemed to go together. Monday, April 6, 2015. As I started pulli...

Thursday, February 19, 2015. Section 31 - Fuel Lines. Build Hours Added Since Last Post: 5.5. Section 31 ushers in a diversion from the build process to date; i.e., with the main structure built (albeit, some additional structure is yet to come), the build moves into the systems installations. Case in point, the fuselage's fuel lines. I thought so. So, I bought the tubing bender from Cleaveland Aircraft Tool. Tuesday, February 10, 2015. Aft Fuselage Attach - Section 30. What a difference a section makes!

Cody's RV-14A Project: July 2014
http://transientair.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Sunday, July 20, 2014. Build Hours Added Since Last Post: 0. While I, and nearly 200 hundred others, wait for the much anticipated release of the RV-14 forward fuselage, I've more or less been in the position to take the summer off from the build. It's not something I would have chosen voluntarily, but it's given me some opportunities to venture out from the workshop. That's not to say that I haven't spent some time making small corrections. Electric motor mounted to firewall. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Cody's RV-14A Project: Section 35 -- Upper Forward Fuselage
http://transientair.blogspot.com/2015/04/section-35-upper-forward-fuselage.html
Monday, April 6, 2015. Section 35 - Upper Forward Fuselage. Build Hours Added Since Last Post: 36.0 (est.). As I started pulling the remaining parts from the shelves, I started with the bare parts and bits and had the same impression. Namely, how do these flimsy parts come together to make something so strong? Well, by the time I was finished installing the structure, I was again amazed at how strong it became! Here, I needed to match drill the cowling attach piano hinge. Section 37 - Roll Over Structure.

Friday, December 26, 2014. Section 27 - The Firewall. Build Hours Added Since Last Post: 25.5. As the fuselage build continues, the firewall structure is next up. I have to admit that I was somewhat surprised to see the firewall made up of multiple stainless steel pieces. I had expected it to be one continuous piece. But after putting it all together, my concerns about its design integrity are all but gone. It seems quite sturdy. Here are some of the pieces ready for installation. With everything primed,...
