Hall Of Records: Surfer's Pajama Party
http://hallofrecords.blogspot.com/2006/09/surfers-pajama-party.html
A collection of out of print, swinging music from another time. Thursday, September 21, 2006. Here's an interesting album. The actual album was recorded at the Sigma Pi Frat House at UCLA. The audio quality isn't great, but it's raw. There's a garage/punky spirit in this record that shines under the squeaky clean early 60's exterior. This is the mono version, and the stereo version is on CD and has bonus tracks, so seek that out. 02 - Last Night. 03 - Surfer's Stomp. 05 - Pajama Party. 06 - Kansas City.

Hall Of Records: The Bud Shank Quartet
http://hallofrecords.blogspot.com/2006/09/bud-shank-quartet.html
A collection of out of print, swinging music from another time. Wednesday, September 27, 2006. The Bud Shank Quartet. Here's a great album. Recorded in 1956, I'm pretty sure this is Bud Shank's first major solo release. I've posted a lot of Shank's work, and I think he's an artist that really epitomises the west coast cool jazz scene. While his more commercially styled pop/jazz work later on is good, his work here and on subsequent Pacific Jazz releases from the early 60's is the really good stuff. I jus...

MID-CENTURY DREAM: August 2005
http://midcenturydream.blogspot.com/2005_08_01_archive.html
Mission: To preserve, catalog and celebrate the signage, architecture, and graphic sensibilities characteristic of the period from around 1930 to 1970. And to have a good ol' time doing so. Friday, August 19, 2005. There are worse things they could do. News from my neighborhood: The Southside location of Rizzo's is gone! The venerable Italian restaurant has vacated its digs on Chippewa, and a new Turkish/Mediterranean joint is about to open in its place (which, I was sad to learn today, was. Sonic Atroph...

Thursday, March 01, 2007. Webster Groves: Giant fruit advocacy starts here! Though nobody seems to ever sit in them- blame their propensity for collecting rainwater that then sits for days upon days- the "apple chairs" are a distinctive feature of Webster Groves' "Old Orchard" neighborhood. Gotta wonder if the apples ...

Mission: To preserve, catalog and celebrate the signage, architecture, and graphic sensibilities characteristic of the period from around 1930 to 1970. And to have a good ol' time doing so. Sunday, September 24, 2006. Now here's something you don't see every day- at least not in the last 15 or 20 years.A Woolworth's sign. After our morning coffee, we had to get a daytime shot of the old Ritz Theater- which is now a dance studio—and this great old bar sign just down the block. We had a long drive ahead, b...

Hall Of Records: The Surfers - On The Rocks
http://hallofrecords.blogspot.com/2006/08/surfers-on-rocks.html
A collection of out of print, swinging music from another time. Monday, August 07, 2006. The Surfers - On The Rocks. While I got this mostly for the cover, which is great, this is a nice album. Of traditional Hawaiian music. While I prefer the more jazz-tinged stylings of the Waikiki Beachboys, there are some good songs on here, notably 'Pidgin English Hula', which has a little spoken introduction that's pretty interesting. 04 - Ke Kali Nei Au. 05 - I Got Hooked At A Hukilau. 06 - Blue Hawaii.
