Coffee on the run: A Week Away in Mildura
http://runningcoffee.blogspot.com/2012/11/a-week-away-in-mildura.html
Coffee on the run. Tuesday, November 13, 2012. A Week Away in Mildura. The long weekend in Melbourne celebrating a horse race with obligatory drunkenness seemed a perfect time to head into the Victorian countryside with my wife, Caroline and our close friends Nick and Zoe. We hired out a houseboat. Zoe and Caroline in front of our Houseboat. Mainly though we had barbies and salads, which suited the climate, about 5C hotter than Melbourne, but we had one day in the high 30'sC! Our great friends, Nick and ...

Just another chess blog. Monday, January 19, 2015. End of an era, and the start of another! End of an era! Thank you to the committee and volunteers at the Melbourne Chess Club for all of your support this year. Looking back, we achieved more than I'd hoped or thought possible. Just another chess blog: Endgame!
http://checkmateendsthegame.blogspot.com/2015/03/endgame.html
Just another chess blog. Tuesday, March 3, 2015. It's been a while since I've played an end-game. I had an opening advantage, which I converted into a difficult late middle-game/early ending, which I converted into a positive Bishop V Knight ending where it felt like black had an advantage. Didn't stop it being a really tricky 'race' type situation where one wasted tempo lost the game. 46. f4! Was more accurate than 46. Ke3? As for the opening, watching all those Hjorth videos helped a bit with the e5?

Just another chess blog: c3 Sicilian!
http://checkmateendsthegame.blogspot.com/2015/02/c3-sicilian.html
Just another chess blog. Tuesday, February 3, 2015. First round of the MCC Championship drew a healthy 51 players. I was lucky enough to draw black against IM James Morris and I learned that it's very difficult to play against the c3 Sicilian if you don't realise you're meant to play e5 as black! Or some sort of Bg4 stuff). Here's the game:. Your web browser and/or your host do not support iframes as required to display the chessboard. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Just another chess blog: f3-e4 in the Nimzo-Larsen (PATENT PENDING)
http://checkmateendsthegame.blogspot.com/2015/03/f3-e4-in-nimzo-larsen-patent-pending.html
Just another chess blog. Tuesday, March 17, 2015. F3-e4 in the Nimzo-Larsen (PATENT PENDING). I wish I could tell you I calculated the Nxe4 - Qh4 tactic; it was more one of those *lets go of the piece*. And "Oh" moments. That said, I hustled well and crafted some sort of position that made problems for him. Mehmedalija fell into the trap of trying to blitz me when he had 45 minutes to my 2 and you can see from the game it didn't work out. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Subscirbe to this blog!

Heinzk Chess Plaza: June 2011
http://heinzk.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Fear and loathing behind the chessboard. Fear and loathing behind the chessboard. Last month, upon submitting "my stuff" to the RLP carnival. Made a nice follow-up post about my submission, by the way). I also realized that all things I want to say about chess/life probably have been said before by others who have thought better about it - I still need to find the places where those things are said, though, and to which extent I agree with what is said. I've got to keep on searching. Or in my own words, ...

Just another chess blog: Wild swings of over-optimism, over-pessimism and under-focus!
http://checkmateendsthegame.blogspot.com/2015/03/wild-swings-of-over-optimism-over.html
Just another chess blog. Thursday, March 26, 2015. Wild swings of over-optimism, over-pessimism and under-focus! Did I just make up a few words? Probably. My game on Monday night had all the usual trademarks of players who learn chess from computers:. Move 13: Be8. Wild. Over-confidence: " Queenside is tied up, this child will now strategically crack like an egg. Just play slowly and wait for the inevitable strategic crumble. Pessimism: " Holy crap. Ne2. How did I miss that? If I put the wrong knight on ...

Just another chess blog: Round II
http://checkmateendsthegame.blogspot.com/2015/02/round-ii.html
Just another chess blog. Monday, February 9, 2015. Was an interesting game. There were a couple of moments I could've tried to calculate moves like c5 or e5 but I think the slower plans were just as good. There have been some suggestions I may have over-prepared d4;). Your web browser and/or your host do not support iframes as required to display the chessboard. February 11, 2015 at 2:28 AM. Nice game, Paul, with a great finish. :-).
