Hello This is my blog chronicling the progress of my Gourden. My goal is to raise gourds from seed to cured and polished gourds which I will use to make musical istruments: shekeres, rattles, and hopefully stringed instruments. Currently growing: bilobal bottle gourds, dipper gourds, and job's tears. Pete Listens (my music blog).

Saturday, May 16, 2009. Went to the site again yesterday morning. Made the Guerilla site twice as long. Would expect there to be 40-60 seeds in the ground. Plan to plant my legit. Also, the heirloom pumpkins and ornamental gourds that I buried last year are starting to sprout. Nice going, Che. May 16, 2009 at 9:35 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). gourdiculture: October 2008

Saturday, October 25, 2008. Instrument Designs (some sketches). While planting, I thought my main crop would be Bilobal. Gourds. My main interest is making Shekeres. But only a couple bilobals survived. These gourds are great for shekeres because the second, smaller lobe can be cut off and a nice cone-shaped sound hole is left to amplify the sound- similar to the sound hole of a guitar or a trumpet. Here is a Bilobal Gourd:. And here is a basic Shekere Design:. Or at least have a unique sound. Hello This...

Sunday, November 16, 2008. Just a few gourds remaining on the canopy wire tor cure while they are still attached. All plants have been cut/pulled from the ground. Thursday, November 13, 2008. Job's Tears: partial harvest. Notice the blues, grays, greens, and browns. Still too few to bead anything with. These are ones that didn't make it. Not a good ratio. Wednesday, November 12, 2008. Gourden Update: Last Stages. Monday, November 10, 2008. The fruit I thought were luffa gourds. Sunday, November 9, 2008.

gourdiculture: August 2008
http://gourdiculture.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html
Saturday, August 30, 2008. Job's Tears: 1st Fruits! Are not gourds. But I've been raising these plants for over a year. They survived my first gourden (last year- when all the gourds died) and I replanted them in my wine barrels plus another plant that I put in the pot you see here. Anyway, last year, I raised them from seed, but they did not fruit. This year, I hit them with some VF-11. And they started to produce the actual "tears". Why am I raising Job's Tears in my gourden if they are not gourds?
