God’s people still experience cave times. It may not be King Saul that has you looking for a place of refuge, but the refuge is no less needed. At such times connections with other Christians are vitally important. A sovereign loving God will not waste the cave times in our lives. Frequently he brings encouragement and strength through our fellowship with others.

During my years of pastoring I kept meeting people who used to go to church - including the churches I served - and had dropped out for a variety of reasons. (Some of those reasons were very good.) It seemed to me that there was an unnecessarily large number of such people. and over those years I developed a deepening burden for these disconnected Christians.

A cave is a great temporary refuge but a lousy permanent home. David didn’t stay in the cave forever, and nor will you. David’s Cave is transitional; after all, some things are better accomplished in a palace than in a cave. After Saul’s death David took his place as king of Israel and made his home in a palace. That was the place and the role to which God had called him. While that was good news for David, it came as bad news to family members of the former king.

The Beginning
David’s Cave was founded in 1999, born out of a burden for people who had disconnected - sometimes painfully - from church. That burden, initally shared by a couple of pastoral couples and nurtured in an incubator of prayer, led to the beginning of a deliberately low-key ministry intentionally aimed at disconnected Christians. David’s Cave exists to be an oasis for people who are thirsty for fellowship, a refuge for people who are disconnected, or a shelter for people who are hurting.
