View my complete profile. Monday, April 14, 2008. Holding on to Hope. Sometime in the next few weeks my wife and I will welcome twin daughters—Rebecca May and Hope Marie. You can imagine that we are very excited… and a bit anxious about what lies ahead. Will flood our spirits, but there can be no question that the journey to our second child has had its share of hardship and difficulty. Questions for which we may or may not ever get a satisfactory answer. Sometimes it's hard to feel hopeful. Help me to ...

Threads of Glory: Transfigured Living
http://bigalscorner.blogspot.com/2015/02/transfigured-living.html
View my complete profile. Friday, February 13, 2015. The passage we often read on the Sunday before Lent begins is an account of the Transfiguration of Jesus. I was struck by something this year that I hadn. T thought of before. While Matthew, Mark, and Luke record this story, John does not. At first it seemed a little odd that John. Whom all the other authors agree was actually there. Does not describe his own experience. M not sure why he doesn. T talk about it, but here. The Transfiguration of Jesus.

Threads of Glory: Failing Jesus
http://bigalscorner.blogspot.com/2015/04/failing-jesus.html
View my complete profile. Thursday, April 2, 2015. Tonight is Holy Thursday. When many followers of Jesus remember the Last Supper, when Jesus bought his disciples together for a final meal together in the Upper Room prior to his arrest and crucifixion. The meal probably began like any other Passover meal, but by the time the night was over the disciples slowly began to realize that n othing would ever be the same. No one expects Jesus to kneel and wash his disciples feet. Of bondage to the powers. Jesus...

View my complete profile. Thursday, May 22, 2008. So You Know What’s Been Happening … but How Are We Doing? I've been describing events that have been happening, but haven't said much about how the family is doing. (I should say up front that this is my take on things; Laurie may have a different perspective.). And did it again. Maybe but I would give anything not to be stumbling around in the dark abyss of grief right now searching for any kind of light. I think I just need an extra dose of patience rig...

This writing was orginally done back in April for Holy Week, but I never posted on my blog at the time. A version of the article appeared in the Lodge Forest United Methodist Church newsletter, The Messenger. So some of you may already have read this. Having said that, I think it is worth posting here for those that never read it.]. That answer is certainly correct. Whereby Jesus "takes our place on th...

View my complete profile. Thursday, June 26, 2008. Shaken to Our Core… Will Our Foundation Hold? Most of you reading this probably know by now that we gave birth to twin girls on May 2, but one of the twins (Hope) was born with major brain damage and we had to take her off life support two days after she was born. You think is approaching. You do the very best you can to get ready for what you think is coming—you brace yourself as best you can. And then the storm. That will carry us through the challengi...

Threads of Glory: Thoughts on Transformation
http://bigalscorner.blogspot.com/2015/02/thoughts-on-transformation.html
View my complete profile. Tuesday, February 24, 2015. A new heart will I give you, and a new spirit I will put within you; and I will remove from your body the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. During Children's Time a couple weeks ago, the children were asked to think about two words: transformation. Our pastor shared some of her own personal experience of transformation. Is typically viewed as a specific experience Jesus had with Peter, James, and John (although my last post. We "grow up" a...

Threads of Glory: Reflecting on the Rock
http://bigalscorner.blogspot.com/2012/04/reflecting-on-rock.html
View my complete profile. Saturday, April 7, 2012. Reflecting on the Rock. We often chastise Peter for his reaction when Jesus stooped to wash his feet. On Holy Thursday, but I can’t help but think that every person in that room felt the same way when they watched their Teacher and friend of the past three years stripping down to his undergarments and stooping to serve them. No doubt they all were shocked at what they witnessed. Jesus once called Peter, the Rock. On which he would build the church. I...
