Olympics Day at MHP. We had a fantastic day celebrating the Olympics at school. Each learning Zone adopted a country to learn about for 2 weeks and then we played tabloid sports to see who could win the gold, silver and bronze medal overall in the whole school for showing the Olympic values. This week we are learning all about Reindeer. Did you know that Santa Claus only started using reindeer in the 19th Century? We also learnt that Rudolf was invented in 1939 by a shop who wanted to sell more things for Christmas. Did you know Reindeer means 'snow shuffler.' The kiwi that spoke. We listened to the story The Papaya that spoke recited by Warminster Prep in England on their blog http:/ year3wps.wordpress.com/. On Wednesday we made pizzas. First we had to mix the yeast with sugar and warm water and wait 15 minutes for it to rise. Then we added flour and salt to make a dough. We put sauce and cheese on our pizzas and cooked them. They tasted delicious! Science in a van. Kanav's mum and dad made some roti and pooja for us to try. Coconuts are fruit. They can be used for lots of things like bowls and cooking oil. To make Fapapas you need to mix sugar, flour, water and coconut cream. The Fapapas felt stodgy and hard. Today we tried a Papaya or Pawpaw. Today we tried a papaya. We are learning about how our food gets from the field to the table. Papaya was first grown in Mexico. It grows on a tall tree, a bit like a coconut tree. We used all our senses to get a whole experience of this unusual fruit. Most of us liked how it tasted, even though it smelt like sick.
