Graham in Honduras: September 2008

http://grahaminhonduras.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html

Wednesday, September 17, 2008. September 15th is Independence Day here in Honduras. On the mornings of the 13th, 14th, and 15th there are parades in which the children at the local schools march. As a sixth-grade teacher, I supervised my students marching in the parade on the 14th. I certainly wasn't marching- my task was more what my Texan coworker compared to herding cattle. We walked alongside; the kids were the show. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Blogs I'm Intimately Connected To:.

Graham in Honduras: I am a crappy blogger.

http://grahaminhonduras.blogspot.com/2008/10/i-am-crappy-blogger.html

Monday, October 20, 2008. I am a crappy blogger. I'm a little uncommitted to blogging, and I realize that's making the whole process more difficult for both of us. To make sure I blog something, I've decided just to document what's going on in life. And what's going on right now is. Strangely, the toilets are not the stinkiest part of the house. I've ranked the stench, in order:. 4 Toilet #1. Toilet #1 serves purpose #1. Flush capacity rating: 4 out of ten. 1 Air Freshener. Like trying to fix a broke...

Saturday, August 23, 2008. 011-405-98.67.81.44. Friday, August 22, 2008. I made it to Copan! First, I would like to show a few pictures of my new house. It is over-extensively documented; hopefully I can comment on a few that might seem strange otherwise. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Blogs I'm Intimately Connected To:. The Other Eighty Percent. Graham in Honduras: October 2008

http://grahaminhonduras.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

Monday, October 27, 2008. Here are some photos of my students at Mayatan! I would love to tell you all about them, but I think I might be breaking some law if I associate names with pictures of people who haven't necessarily given me permission to use their image online. If you want to know more, just talk to me on Skype sometime. Other than that, enjoy the pictures- my students are as fun as they look! Monday, October 20, 2008. I am a crappy blogger. 3 Shoes. Graham in Honduras: December 2008

http://grahaminhonduras.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html

Monday, December 1, 2008. Travesia Montecristo Bike Tour. Two days and almost 100 kilometers of rolling Central American hills. Two crappy Bacini bikes—it’s the Guatemalan brand, and the only two bike stores in Copán carry only these bikes. Two sizes fit all—children’s and adults’. The grips tore up our hands, our brakes, seats, headsets, and gears fell apart, but we made it—. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Travesia Montecristo Bike Tour. Blogs I'm Intimately Connected To:. The Other Eighty Percent: August 2008

The Other Eighty Percent. Wednesday, August 20, 2008. Because I am leaving for Copan (in 8 hrs. 37 min! Here is my dilemma: nap, or savor my time in the Great PNW? Napping seems impossible, even ludicrous: in addition to having packing to do and last-minute purchases to make, there is the excitement (and the coffee) keeping me wired. For those poor souls who aren't familiar, Pacific Northwest. Monday, August 18, 2008. A New Definition of Poverty. Newspaper in my hometown of Vancouver, Washington:. I woul...

The Other Eighty Percent. Monday, August 18, 2008. A New Definition of Poverty. This is a brief background article I wrote for The Columbian. Newspaper in my hometown of Vancouver, Washington:. The Other Eighty Percent. Tuesday, October 21, 2008. Chuchos and Poverty Policy (a blog that i started a month ago and didn't finish). Chuchos and Poverty Policy. 8221; people would yell at passing dogs. Then, instead of coming, the dogs always seemed to turn tail and run from their callers. Had Honduran dogs re-discovered the call of the wild, and sought further independence from their human captors? The whole event took less than ten minutes. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Other Eighty Percent. Tuesday, October 21, 2008. The end of The End of Poverty. I just finished reading The End of Poverty. By Jeffrey Sachs. He makes some important points toward the end about the anti-globalization movement. So the anti-globalizers have their heart in the right place. Which is something I can appreciate, because I have at least a few times referenced the “corporations” as the root causes of various and sundry social and environmental problems. Indonesia, for not regulating a living...

The Other Eighty Percent. Wednesday, September 17, 2008. In Honduras today, I saw a man riding his horse down the street, talking on his cell phone, and I found myself wondering: is that legal? In Washington, we have laws about talking on the phone while in transit. Either you have a hands-free device, or you leave the talking to your co-pilot. The horseman clearly had no hands-free device. Copilot? Felipe did not receive a formal technical education. He was lucky to be able to spend a few months in ...
