Seeking Ultra: Devil's Dome Loop epic - North Cascades, WA
http://seekingultra.blogspot.com/2013/06/devils-dome-loop-epic-north-cascades-wa.html
Sunday, June 30, 2013. Devil's Dome Loop epic - North Cascades, WA. Three weeks ago when I did Desolation Peak. I really wanted to do the Devil's Dome Loop. But was worried about the amount of snow and route finding that may be required (especially when alone). Dave. And I got in touch after I did Desolation (and he was running the Echo Valley 50m. And summarily put the loop on the calendar. Sweet. Richard. In a nutshell, the loop circumnavigates Jack Mountain. Devil's Park, heading up to Jackita Ridge.

Seeking Ultra: August 2015
http://seekingultra.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Monday, August 17, 2015. Mt Daniel circumnavigation, Alpine Lakes Wilderness. Sir Hikes a Lot invited me on a long-form circumnavigation of Mt. Daniel in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. He chose a longer and possibly more-scenic route instead of the tight loop, and it's a tour of basically every alpine lake on the mountain proper. In summer, as opposed to a ski tour. The clockwise loop was approximately 26.5 miles with 9,100' of gain. Sir Hikes made a little video as well:. Rising traverse to the col. Looki...

Seeking Ultra: Deer Park loop, Olympic National Park
http://seekingultra.blogspot.com/2014/07/deer-park-loop-olympic-national-park.html
Sunday, July 27, 2014. Deer Park loop, Olympic National Park. Another weekend with Plain closed meant it was time for another "classic" route. The Olympic Mountains look so close from Seattle, but including a ferry ride, driving through small towns and a winding 15-mile FS road, it takes just as long as heading to North Cascades National Park. Go do this loop. Seriously. From Deer Park to Obstruction Point. Deer along the trail. Pretty much the view the whole way toward Obstruction Point. Descent from Gr...

Seeking Ultra: July 2015
http://seekingultra.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 29, 2015. Glacier Peak 100 , Glacier Peak Wilderness. Last winter I posted a number of 100-mile routes in the North Cascades. That might be good adventure runs. The Glacier Peak circumnavigation was the one I wanted to do most and luckily Ben. Was just as keen to partake in some scenic suffering. Usually done as a backpack, there are a few different trails to take around the east side of the mountain ( High Pass. And my files #1. By far this is the hardest thing I've ever done. More than ...

Seeking Ultra: April 2015
http://seekingultra.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Sunday, April 26, 2015. Thunder Basin, North Cascades National Park. An unexpectedly-glorious day in the North Cascades with Sir-Hikes-a-Lot. The 80% chance of thunder storms seemed to be caught on the peaks further west and we spent the day under blue skies and a warm sun. Only saw one party of two near McAllister Camp on our way out. A very special place we got to enjoy. Early on the Thunder Creek trail. Thunder Creek; pretty low flow. Thunder Creek before McAllister Camp. Upper Thunder Creek; doesn't ...

Seeking Ultra: Goat Island Mountain-Banshee Peak "7up" loop, Mount Rainier National Park
http://seekingultra.blogspot.com/2015/07/goat-island-mountain-banshee-peak-7up.html
Friday, July 3, 2015. Goat Island Mountain-Banshee Peak "7up" loop, Mount Rainier National Park. I haven't truly been in MRNP. For over a decade. This is a sweet hiking loop that is about half on trail and half cross country (though reasonably tame). All credit to WillisWall for his very cool MRNP 7up route collection. Excited to do some of the other ones as well! Made the round trip in 5:50 car-to-car (5:50am-11:40am). White River from the east ridge of GIM. Goat Island Mountain summit 7,288'. Could you...

Seeking Ultra: February 2015
http://seekingultra.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, February 22, 2015. Mount St. Helens north. Last week on the Loowit. Ben and I convinced ourselves that the trails to the north of Mount St. Helens in the Mount Margaret Backcountry area. Were looking good for a long run. A cool-looking 50k was mapped and Kevin. It was another gorgeous outing with good guys and from the summit of The Dome off Boundary Trail #1 we could see Jefferson, Hood, St. Helens, Adams and Rainier; Cascade volcanoes abound! Starting out from the Hummocks TH. Numerous creeks a...

Seeking Ultra: January 2015
http://seekingultra.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Friday, January 30, 2015. Ruby Mountain loop, North Cascades. This is a route I probably wouldn't do in summer, but wanting to actually do a little running I was looking for something mostly at low elevation to avoid snow. The choice came down to this or the East Bank of Ross, which is out and back and I've been on that trail three times, so the Ruby Mountain loop won! Starting from Colonial Creek campground, relevant trail conditions are:. Thunder Creek: all fine, some tiny patches of booted in snow/ice.

Seeking Ultra: June 2015

Sunday, June 28, 2015. Pasayten Wilderness: Amphitheater Mountain, The Pope, Apex Mountain. And I planned a Pasayten Wilderness mega-excursion, summiting a whole bunch of the Eastern Pasayten's highest peaks over a 70-mile lollipop. I was also interested in seeing all the views I'd missed on the same trails in June 2014 (1' of fresh snow, clouds, fog). Trying to beat at least a little of the heat, we left Aunt Janie's cabin. We started the climb up at about 10am and it was steep, hot and south facing....

Seeking Ultra: May 2015
http://seekingultra.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, May 31, 2015. Bridge Creek to Colonial Camp via Park Creek Pass, North Cascades National Park. While the scenery was gorgeous as always, yesterday was only the second time I've gotten sick on a run. The first time? Last year when I also did the same PCT section from Rainy Pass down to the Stehekin River. PCT/Bridge Creek: lots of water running over the trail; handful of easy blowdowns within the first few miles leaving Highway 20. Old Wagon Road: mostly growing back to singletrack. Bowan Mountain...
