Dwight and Jan's Mission: October 2012
http://djcongomission.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Dwight and Jan's Mission. Tuesday, October 30, 2012. Picking up our new shelves at the market place. Sunday, October 28, 2012. Saturday morning we got up at 6:00 to do a service project for Sister Christiann. She needed a lot cleared of weeds and garbage for an addition to the old family home. Most of the work was done with machetties. I used it for about 15 minutes and had enough. The lot was about 75’x75’ and it took us 2 hours to get it cleared off. The neighbor children came out to watch us work.
Dwight and Jan's Mission: January 2014
http://djcongomission.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Dwight and Jan's Mission. Sunday, January 19, 2014. Street Vendors in Douala. Jobs are impossible to find in Cameroon. There is a 70% unemployment rate. People sell anything on the streets to buy food for the day. These are a bunch of random pictures of different ways people try to make a living. Before Christmas, we saw this man selling beach balls. I love his glasses and nose. He is walking down the middle of the very crowded street. A popcorn and water vendor. Large avocados for sale. Fresh pineapple ...

Dwight and Jan's Mission. Monday, January 14, 2013. This is the street we drive down to get to their home. This is some of the children looking over the railing of their home which is on the 2nd floor. These are neighbor children who come out to see us white people when we get out of our truck. This is a mother hen and her chicks on the street in front of their home. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Scott and Kathy Rees. Watermark template. Powered by Blogger.
Dwight and Jan's Mission: February 2013
http://djcongomission.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Dwight and Jan's Mission. Sunday, February 24, 2013. Random pictures of things we see every day. This is a bird that was walking around one of the shops in Kinshasa. We don’t usually see birds like this just walking around. This is a fish market on the side of the river. They go out and fish with nets, and then come in here and sell the fish fresh. At least as fresh as they can be sitting out in the 90 degree heat all day. When you buy chickens, you get the head and feet inside. We didn’t reali...This is...
Dwight and Jan's Mission: Moving people and things in Cameroon
http://djcongomission.blogspot.com/2014/01/moving-people-and-things-in-cameroon.html
Dwight and Jan's Mission. Saturday, January 18, 2014. Moving people and things in Cameroon. We helped our Elders help one of their investigators move this past week. She was living in a little two room apartment with out electricity with her boyfriend and he made her move out. As we drove to her new apartment, we took these pictures to give an idea of the sights we saw along the way. Everything is very typical of any neighborhood here in Douala. It is so humbling when we help people move and everything t...
Dwight and Jan's Mission: December 2012
http://djcongomission.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Dwight and Jan's Mission. Sunday, December 9, 2012. Special People in our lives in Douala and Elder Holland in Kinshasa. We have met a lot of wonderful people here in Douala Cameroon. We thought we would show a few and tell why they mean a lot to us. Pres Njampou on the left and Pres. Ngueti in the center reading, are our branch presidents. They are amazing men and were so excited to go to Kinshasa to be with Elder Holland. It is so amazing that members of the 12 Apostles are going into every...This is t...
Dwight and Jan's Mission: An experience of a lifetime!!!
http://djcongomission.blogspot.com/2013/11/an-experience-of-lifetime.html
Dwight and Jan's Mission. Tuesday, November 19, 2013. An experience of a lifetime! This is the bride, Sidoni and her two nieces who were flower children outside of the court house. When someone else takes the picture, it is hard to know when they will snap it, so most of us weren’t ready. I’m not sure if they are hired or just show up, but these men were playing music when the wedding party came out. They play flutes and small drums and parade around. We paused just long enough to take a picture of this ...
Dwight and Jan's Mission: April 2013
http://djcongomission.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Dwight and Jan's Mission. Thursday, April 25, 2013. A Man’s Blog. Bro Ebere is my mechanic and this is his shop. He is in the Branch Presidency and speaks English. My truck was making a terrible noise and he found out there was a loose part on the air filter box. He heated up a wire with a torch and pushed a hole in it to put a screw in to hold it tight. It fixed the rattle. The store on the right is a plumbing store. Notice the sinks hanging and the pipe in the roll. This is a large building under const...
Dwight and Jan's Mission: July 2013
http://djcongomission.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html
Dwight and Jan's Mission. Sunday, July 7, 2013. Kribi with Romeo and Irene. We drove across this bridge where the river comes into the ocean. We stopped at a little village where the fishermen bring in their fish to sell at a marked and restaurant that is right on the ocean. Here they are unloading their boats and mending their nets. This is their boats tied up to the market along the coast where their fish are displayed to sell. This is the Fedelie Hotel where we stayed. It was across the street fro...

OUR OWN PRIVATE IDAHO
OUR OWN PRIVATE IDAHO. Saturday, August 2, 2008. We had ALL the grandkids here this July and some of them for as long as two whole weeks! Naturally, we had to get all the kids together for a photo shoot and that is getting harder and harder to do as we get more and more grandkids. Brendan and Kodiak got fed up after about two shots and took turns running off from the group. This caused everyone to laugh so they just kept doing it! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Grammy and Papa
Stories from our past. A month after Grammy passed, Papa and David came out to LA for Thanksgiving with the Alley’s. While Donna was busy cooking a feast, Papa opened up and shared some great stories from his life during WWII and after. I was lucky enough to press record on my laptop save it for the history books! Below are some quotes from the shared stories. Ldquo; Not scared. Remember, when you first get drafted you don’t know what the hell you’re doing.”. Jul 22nd, 2014. Jul 22nd, 2014.

Thursday, November 6, 2014. Our Detox in France. Paris is just a beautiful city. It was such great fun to share it with Emily and Eric. After a long, overnight flight we arrived in Paris to find Emily and Eric waiting and watching for us at the airport. They had arrived minutes earlier and stationed themselves in a place where they could see all arrivals. It was so wonderful to come out of the "tube" from the plane and see them there. Two years is a long time to be apart. It was a joyful reunion. There's...
