Tuesday, January 1, 2013. A two-hour drive from Meno a Kwena with an aching heart leaving XR, the bush baby, behind. A two-hour wait in Maun for the flight to J'Burg. We left early to accommodate others. A first insight into my increasing loathing of people taking flights. I get such a hate-on for the "I have to be first" people. It's embarrassing. A five-hour layover in Johannesburg. Another tedious five-hour layover in Frankfurt. (See #3 above.). I love being back to high-speed Internet. My pal, Oscar.

Thursday, November 29, 2012. Friday: Steve has arrived! He had good flights, sleep aided with wine. He got to the hotel around 8:00 am and enjoyed several cups of coffee and a hearty breakfast. Right now, he is showering as we prepare for an adventure downtown out of the 50K winds. We drove into town, found free parking (! Happy hour at the Pepper Bar in Camps Bay. Steve had some champers, but I am driving so I had sushi. The escarpment behind the beach at Camps Bay. Steve retains his hat in the wind.

Monday, October 31, 2011. Bwana has several concerns, traveller's diarrhea being foremost amongst them, but the security of my belongings is another concern. In India, I stayed in 2-star hotels and always found a way to feel confident that what I left in my room would be there when I got back. Thursday, December 29, 2011. Last Day; Boo Hoo. Never before has a vacation being centered on living things. I've usually travelled for sites or cultures and not until India did I really dramatically experience the exhilaration of extreme foreignness. Still, my Indian vacations were pretty focused on temples, forts, mausoleums and palaces with a side-effect benefit of cultural experience. I am on my third book about Africa. Maybe I will keep on reading African authors to help keep this memory alive.
