Travels Without Charley: In Search of America

Travels Without Charley: In Search of America. Saturday, August 15, 2015. 8/15 Franconia Notch, Old Man on the Mountain and Flume. Left Vermont yesterday and drove into New Hampshire. My first and only stop in this state is Franconia Notch in the White Mountains. For one thing, the northern part of this state is very narrow and even though there is a lot to see around here, I am really anxious to get to Maine where I can have some fresh lobster. (Sorry, New Hampshire! On to the flume. This is a crack...

Travels Without Charley: In Search of America: September 2014

http://www.grandmajjb.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

Travels Without Charley: In Search of America. Tuesday, September 30, 2014. 9/29 Drive to Red Bluff, CA. This drive had two impressive sites: Mount Shasta and an almost dry Shasta lake. Mount Shasta is certainly impressive. It really fills the landscape. They had a little rain recently, so the top now has snow. Apparently, it has been dry on top for several months. This is a cinder cone, not too far from Mount Shasta. Grandma on the Road. 9/27 Harris Beach State Park. This is a tsunami siren. The drive f...

Travels Without Charley: In Search of America. Monday, June 29, 2015. 6/29 Tobermory Shipwreck Boat Tour. Signed up for the 11:00 am glass-bottom boat tour today. They picked us up at the campground, which was nice. Pulling out of the port of Tobermory, we were lucky to see the Chi-Cheemaun loading vehicles. Good photos of the open bow! This is the Big Tub lighthouse. I think we went swimming here in about 1982 when we were last here in Tobermory. In the distance is. Modern lighthouse at Flower Pot Island.

Travels Without Charley: In Search of America. Saturday, January 31, 2015. 1/31 ECHO Farm, Fort Myers, FL. I decided that I needed day out today, so I checked out TripAdvisor and found some interesting things to do. One was this experimental farm where they train people to advise third-world farmers, and also test seeds and plants to find ones with higher yields in various climates. They offer walking tours in small groups. It was interesting to see all of the tropical and unusual species they grow.

Travels Without Charley: In Search of America: December 2014

http://www.grandmajjb.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Travels Without Charley: In Search of America. Wednesday, December 31, 2014. 12/31 Summary of 2014. It’s been a good year for me:. Still teaching a couple of college classes each semester, been pretty healthy, haven’t fallen and broken anything, no major mechanical problems with motorhome, and my kids and grandchildren are doing well. Can’t expect much more in life! I’ve made another loop around the country this year. Kids all enjoyed playing with their cousins, which was nice. Spent two weeks in the Flo...

Travels Without Charley: In Search of America: 8/8 Ausable Chasm, NY

http://www.grandmajjb.blogspot.com/2015/08/88-ausable-chasm-ny.html

Travels Without Charley: In Search of America. Saturday, August 8, 2015. 8/8 Ausable Chasm, NY. It has been 50 years since I have been to AuSable Chasm, and I think a lot has changed, at least from what I remember. For one thing, there were a LOT of people, but I suppose I need to do a better job of getting used to this, at least until the kids go back to school! I also can't remember paying over $31 to walk down the chasm and take the raft part way. Looking behind me at the rapids we had gone down. ...

More Golden Years : May 2016

http://travelinginrvandlivinginlasvegas.blogspot.com/2016_05_01_archive.html

Back in Sinaloa - Mazatlan and towns around it. Tuesday, May 31, 2016. It is warm here in Vegas now. The last day of May already. Our son John would have been 51 a couple of weeks ago. Doesn't seem possible he has been gone almost 10 years. Enough of that. Here is last night kind of okay sunset. Too many heavy clouds to be really pretty. This is looking out from the front of our house towards the west side of town. It is now 5:00 and it is 98 degrees out with a feels like 95! And these are the tiles the ...

Back in Sinaloa - Mazatlan and towns around it. Wednesday, August 31, 2016. Got on the road , we are now in Williams, AZ again. A couple of videos from our ride up Schnebly Hill. I couldn't hold the camera too steady with all the bouncing around. Saw this t-shirt and thought it was approx. for our last ride. Beautiful morning in Cottonwood, but plans changed! We are now back in Williams, AZ. The morning sky in Cottonwood. Very pretty. Here is a neat little trailer that is here in the park. Tuesday, Augus...

http://travelinginrvandlivinginlasvegas.blogspot.com/2016_06_01_archive.html

Back in Sinaloa - Mazatlan and towns around it. Thursday, June 30, 2016. We haven't been doing much the past few days. Mainly staying out of the heat. Today is first under 100 day - it is only 98. But it did rain last night. Just enough to get the vehicles muddy. Went to Walmart for a few things. Surprised to see Craft Brewery inside WalMart. You can get your bottles refilled here. This is the view of their front driveway. Full of flowers. They are on around 8 acres. The waterfall, sounds really neat.

More Golden Years : Keeping very unbusy

http://travelinginrvandlivinginlasvegas.blogspot.com/2017/01/keeping-very-unbusy.html

Back in Sinaloa - Mazatlan and towns around it. Monday, January 9, 2017. Monday morning, going to be another nice day. And the week ahead looks good too. Didn’t do much yesterday, stayed home and off my leg, put my package of frozen peas on the knee off and on. Today the bruising is almost gone and the swelling is down and I can almost walk normal. However the foot on that leg was quite swollen last night. Down some this morning…. Been rearranging cupboards and freezer and refrigerator. Trying to mak...

Back in Sinaloa - Mazatlan and towns around it. Wednesday, January 4, 2017. Two more or less quiet days. 2017 – Wow already another year. Seems like it was only a little while ago when everyone was all excited about 2000. Got up early 5:00 and did my jobs. Wrote my blog and posted it. Prepared the fruit and fed the birds. Did all my end of year chores. Backing up and totaling out of yearly expenses and backed up my computer. Also watered my two plants. And it had just gotten light out! We won’t be ...

http://travelinginrvandlivinginlasvegas.blogspot.com/2016_04_01_archive.html

Back in Sinaloa - Mazatlan and towns around it. Thursday, April 28, 2016. Walking and a rainbow. Another weird desert day. Did manage to get in a little under 2 mile walk again. Between rain showers. Just another cactus with it flowers. Here are another couple of the utility boxes that have been painted. We were moving too fast to get a good picture - but it's good enough to see. It is one of my favorites. I like the people on it. Wednesday, April 27, 2016. Snow, cactus and curtains. Some more pretty ones.

Back in Sinaloa - Mazatlan and towns around it. Tuesday, January 31, 2017. More time spent in San Blas. First let me say it is so nice to have Willie up and running again. Back to our shopping day, Sunday. This is a really small store next to the Central Market. Two people can’t pass in the aisle. Dry goods, canned goods, lunch meat and cheese and a cold case for milk and other important drinks. Then before heading home we HAD to stop at Juan Banana for banana bread. YUM! They make the best ever. Even ma...

More Golden Years : A Night on the Town

http://travelinginrvandlivinginlasvegas.blogspot.com/2017/01/a-night-on-town.html

Back in Sinaloa - Mazatlan and towns around it. Thursday, January 5, 2017. A Night on the Town. After our trip to the doctor yesterday, I decided to play up my "injury." No way could I stand up and cook dinner - we'd need to go out to eat. Ha! It worked. We went across the street to the Torres hotel for dinner. Ate inside in the dining room. Looking across the room at a kind of pretty sunset. And a Paso Robles. Nice big cinnamon rolls - they are so good. The beautiful building the bakery is in. It is...

Grandma Jo in PNG. Thursday, August 16, 2012. Since my Katie girl created this blog for me, I thought that I should post for her birthday. The lovely Molly gave Becky and I over an hour long flight around Grass Valley and Nevada City on Sunday. What a delight to see our world from the air. These strong young ladies pulled the plane out of the hangar. Grass Valley from the air. This was the scary part! My home is in the bottom corner. Coming in for a very smooth landing.
