Grandma's Recipes

This is my journey through the recipes of Fern Herald, my grandmother. Monday, December 20, 2010. I regret to inform everyone that the cookbook will not be done in time for Christmas. I have been working hard on the recipes and the blog. I have a lot of the work done but I just didnt want to rush the book to get it done for Christmas. This project is important to me and I want it to be done right. I am not sure if many people in the family read this, but I will continue to post my progress regardless.

Grandma's Recipes: Carrot Cake

http://www.grandmassrecipes-herald.blogspot.com/2010/12/carrot-cake.html

This is my journey through the recipes of Fern Herald, my grandmother. Monday, December 20, 2010. 2 cups sifted flour. 2 tsp baking soda. 1 1/2 tsp salt. 1 1/2 cups oil. 1 cup cut dates. 2 cars junior baby food carrots. 1 cup powdered sugar. 3oz package softened cream cheese. To make frosting, blend powdered sugar and cream cheese together. Flour in the bowl. Woops, forgot to sift. A whole bunch of eggs, cage free of course. The last of the vanilla. In goes the coconut. Baby food in cake? Seems odd to me.

Grandma's Recipes: Old Fashioned

http://www.grandmassrecipes-herald.blogspot.com/2010/12/old-fashioned.html

This is my journey through the recipes of Fern Herald, my grandmother. Tuesday, December 7, 2010. This one is not one of Grandma's recipes, but she enjoyed them. like the rest of the Heralds. This one is a brandy sour. All the ingredients that you'll need (don't pay attention to the dishes I didn't put away). Add a few orange pieces to an old fashioned cup. Add a couple maraschino cherries and some of the cherry juice or grenadine. Couple shakes of bitters. 1 oz of brandy. Oh don't you wish it was Friday!

Grandma's Recipes: Seven Layer Salad

http://www.grandmassrecipes-herald.blogspot.com/2010/12/seven-layer-salad.html

This is my journey through the recipes of Fern Herald, my grandmother. Monday, December 6, 2010. 2 quarts shredded lettuce. 1/2 cup celery (cut thin). 1/2 cup diced onion. 1/2 cup green pepper. 1 package frozen peas, cooked and drained. Cooked up about 6 strips of bacon. That didnt seem like enough, so I added 4 more. Cant hurt right :). Spread mayo mix on veggies. Kept the bacon separate until just before eating. FrenchieSomewhereInTheMidwest: Decorate your mugs

http://frenchiesomewhereinthemidwest.blogspot.com/2013/01/decorate-your-mugs.html

Wednesday, January 9, 2013. For the Mrks Family Christmas exchange, I wanted to craft my own gifts instead of buying something off the shelf. After perusing my Pinterest pages, I found a sweet idea : personalized tea or coffee mugs. And that's why I embarked in this DIY. Everyone in the family received a mug with a personalized design. I created a little cheat sheet for you here below if you decide to create your own decorated mugs. It's simple, fun and a cheap way to create unique little gifts.

FrenchieSomewhereInTheMidwest: Opening Day Today !

http://frenchiesomewhereinthemidwest.blogspot.com/2013/04/opening-day-today.html

Monday, April 1, 2013. Hello friends and family! Guess what day it is today? Yep, it's April fools, but it's also baseball opening day. This year Craig and I will not attend this day (too cold for tailgating and too much to do at work.). We still wanted to show our support, so Go Brewers! Those seats are going to fill quickly tomorrow. I love opening day because it means spring is around the corner! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Monday, March 18, 2013. Happy First Day Of Spring! Well, can you believe it is already the first day of spring today? I have a seriously hard time. Snow was falling this morning and the weather is just miserable. I was in Chicago today for work and the photo below was my view from the meeting room overlooking Michigan Avenue from the 15t floor. Guess what looks like spring in this picture? Well, look closely. Yes : the color green! So enjoy and be patient. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

FrenchieSomewhereInTheMidwest: Jell-O Love !

http://frenchiesomewhereinthemidwest.blogspot.com/2013/01/jell-o-love.html

Sunday, January 6, 2013. During my last antique shopping trip, I found this old 1929 Jello Recipe Book. I absolutely loved the cover design and cracked up at some recipes in there, which led me to spend the few bucks to take it with me. And to be able to try some recipes myself, I also bought a few lovely molds which magically appeared in front of me! Well, in case I don't use them for Jello cooking, they will make perfect little cups in my future dream craft room that I will have one day! Subscribe to: ...

FrenchieSomewhereInTheMidwest: Smoking heals....

http://frenchiesomewhereinthemidwest.blogspot.com/2013/01/smoking-heals.html

Friday, January 11, 2013. Back in 1906, that was indeed advertised! One more find from my trip to the antique store : a tiny 1906 almanac. This little pocket almanac happens to be sponsored by Marshall's Cubed Cigarettes. This is great early marketing : Marshall paid for those almanac and gave them to druggists for free distribution. I found this simply fascinating. Check out some testimonials on the photo below. And please don't try Marshall's Cubed Cigarettes if you have a cold in the head.
