Dancing With Trucks: Mississippi - home of dirt bikes and pickup trucks
http://dancingwithtrucks.blogspot.com/2012/01/mississippi-home-of-dirt-bikes-and.html
Monday, January 30, 2012. Mississippi - home of dirt bikes and pickup trucks. Clarity came early. If we stick with our original plan of 3-days to New Orleans.we would need to stop for the night in Mississippi. Say "hello" to Mississippi Express. South of Chattanooga - the roads returned to desolate - and we crossed the border into Georgia. Look quick, because you are only in Georgia for 17 miles before I-59 lands you into Alabama. We couldn't get through Birmingham and Tuscaloosa Alabama fast enough - to...

Dancing With Trucks: Krewe du Vieux
http://dancingwithtrucks.blogspot.com/2012/02/krewe-du-vieux.html
Saturday, February 4, 2012. We started our day extra early (3:30AM) - with "work" of course. Had a few computer projects that needed attention (sigh). Self-employed never truly go "on vacation" - but it's all good! By 10:30AM - it was time to put away the computer and Internet - and enjoy New Orleans. I grabbed my running shoes and Garmin GPS.and Paddy hopped on his bike for some tourista exploration. First stop - Congo Square. Another "must experience" (for those who appreciate music). We checked a few ...

Dancing With Trucks: Procrastination departure
http://dancingwithtrucks.blogspot.com/2012/02/procrastination-departure.html
Sunday, February 5, 2012. By using all of our procrastination skills, Sunday morning seemed like just another day as a tourista in New Orleans. Yes, we had 1100 looming miles of driving. No, we had no desire to leave New Orleans. So, let's just stay a little bit longer. After a few hours of business, blogging and general lally-gagging, I donned my running shoes and Garmin GPS - and Paddy hopped on the fold-up bike for one last day of aaaaahhhhhssss torture riding through the French Quarter. It is midnigh...

Dancing With Trucks: More aaaaashhhsss torture - riding bikes TO the levee
http://dancingwithtrucks.blogspot.com/2012/02/more-aaaaashhhsss-torture-riding-bikes.html
Thursday, February 2, 2012. More aaaaashhhsss torture - riding bikes TO the levee. The temperatures are in the 80's, with constant threat of rain. Bayou country has it's own micro-climate of constant storms and elevated humidity. For now, the sky is blue enough. A perfect day for our second attempt to ride bicycles along the Mississippi levee. We have learned a few lessons since yesterday's bicycle adventure. We needed to find less traveled. No more scary " Magazine Street. My experience with New Orleans...

Dancing With Trucks: Rock n Bowl and the missing fiddler
http://dancingwithtrucks.blogspot.com/2012/02/rock-n-bowl-and-missing-fiddler.html
Friday, February 3, 2012. Rock n Bowl and the missing fiddler. Paddy's aaaaaahhhsssssss was begging for no more long distance bicycle rides on bumpy roads. So, we opted for exercise mania closer to BaseCamp RV. Let's get to know the French Quarter. One street at a time. Armed with my trusty Garmin GPS - today's goal is to run 5 miles and not one step further. We are going to tour the streets of the French Quarter. You might be wondering - Why isn't Paddy riding his comfy seat trike bike? In order for exe...

Dancing With Trucks: January 2012
http://dancingwithtrucks.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, January 31, 2012. Kermit packs Ward 7s Bullets Sports Bar. After 2 days of driving the "beast", the need for exercise was at an all time high. But no. Work consumed our lives from the wee hours of the day.until 3PM.and by then our options for longer distance excursions was over. So, we used the remaining daylight hours to bicycle around the fringes of the French Quarter, and discover what has changed (and what hasn't) since Hurricane Katrina. By 8PM, it was time to find music. Kermit Ruffins.

Dancing With Trucks: Appalachia travels enroute to Tennessee
http://dancingwithtrucks.blogspot.com/2012/01/appalachia-travels-enroute-to-tennessee.html
Sunday, January 29, 2012. Appalachia travels enroute to Tennessee. Destination - New Orleans. 20 hours (including stops) and 1100 miles one-way from Silver Spring Maryland. Expecting that our speeds would hover around the 60mph mark ( most fuel efficient at 10 miles per gallon for the RV beast. We planned a leisurely ETA of 3 days - traveling in daylight only. We made these plans before we reached Tennessee. And looking forward to descending to sea level. By mid afternoon, the headaches were raging, the ...

Dancing With Trucks: Magazine Street: Where NOT to bike enroute to the Mississippi River Trail (Levee)
http://dancingwithtrucks.blogspot.com/2012/02/magazine-street-where-not-to-bike.html
Wednesday, February 1, 2012. Magazine Street: Where NOT to bike enroute to the Mississippi River Trail (Levee). After working a full 8 hour day before 11AM (yes, we started at 3AM! By the time we had pumped up the bike tires, the rain had returned to a light drizzle. The clouds looked ominous, but the radar showed that we had a window of exercise opportunity. An opportunity to at least venture out to the Mississippi levee, and back. We had only traveled a few miles, when I noticed a small mom-n-pop coffe...
