Jess Hagadorn: Food & Wine
http://oneclassicwino.blogspot.com/p/food-wine-pairings.html
Match food and wines in terms of the weight of each or acidity of each. This is a fundamental way of thinking about pairings. It's important to keep the body, or weight, of the wine in mind. A heavy, full bodied wine will match well with a heavier dish. The acids in wine and the natural acids in food must be considered when pairing food and wines. An acidic wine, such as Sauvignon Blanc, is useful in balancing a rich or spicy dish such as Thai. My Food and Wine Pairings. BBQ in the Crockpot! A Meal from ...

Dinner Party Place Setting. There are a lot of ways to set the table for your next dinner party. Casual, Formal, European. It can be elaborate. Depending on your style and theme. Here's the basic place setting I use and you can build from there. I like to use chargers and/or placemats. Forks go on the left, knives on the right. Be sure to use the dishes that are appropriate (i.e. salad plate, bread plate, spoons, bowls) depending on what you are serving. Also offer wine glasses and a water glass. 3 Set u...

Perfect Pairing with Vinho Verde. Vinho Verde has been in the spotlight recently and I see why. It's a great buy and perfect to enjoy during the hot summer months. As NY Times describes it "cheap and cheerful". I went on the hunt to find a great Vinho Verde and a nice dinner pairing. To around $12. Up there with rosé, this is becoming a go-to patio wine for the remainder of this super hot, muggy DC summer. I came across this Portuguese Vinho Verde at only $8.99 (! Cedar Plank Salmon is by far one of the ...

A Mexican Gem in Vienna. After moving to Fairfax 2 years ago, Bryan and I have been hunting for great restaurants in the suburbs. Inundated with chain restaurants like Cheesecake Factory, TGIFridays, etc, it's been quite the task to find a great go-to place to enjoy date night. Having loved Bazin's on Church. In Vienna a few weeks ago with the in-laws, we've been wanting to try their sister restaurant, Alegria. A casual Mexican joint. No question about that. They were rich and flavorful and served wi...

A Weekend Trip to VA Wine Country. Ever thought of staying in West Virginia. Probably not your first thought. Charles Town is known for the horse races and Hollywood Casino. A few miles from there is a quaint, cozy and historical bed and breakfast, Hillbrook Inn. And a short drive from there is VA wine country. Perfect after a day of winery hopping. Virginia wineries are within a short drive; plan a trip to visit Breaux, Hillsborough, Doukenie, Veramar, Bluemont and many more! How gorgeous is this patio?

State of the Vine. An Arlington wine and dessert blog. State of the Vine. A Bordeaux-Style Maryland Vineyard. I recently visited my very first Maryland winery! Is a quaint boutique winery in Harwood, MD owned and operated by husband and wife Doug and Maureen Heimbuch. Doug and Maureen were on hand to do our tasting themselves (and they absolutely could not have been any nicer) in an intimate tasting room, complete with pretzels. They also have an outside area to sit and drink more post-tasting. In Arling...
