Former diary writer takes to putting thoughts down on web instead. Likes the limitless space you get here, not like a scrap of A4. Wednesday, March 31, 2004. N is a terrible fidget. As his father was, I have to admit. K, M and I went to see his class's drumming performance at school today, and he spent so much time swaying his drum around it was a miracle we got through the half hour without it smashing down and interrupting everything. No, Ghana. Of course. Posted by Marziman : 3/31/2004 06:27:00 PM.

The papers are full of Wayne Rooney (a footballer) being dumped by his girlfriend (the ridiculous Coleen, who allowed herself to appear on the front of one of the tabloids' Saturday magazines in the most airbrushed photo I have ever seen), because he slept with a prosittute. What would I be doing if I hadn't had a talent, perhaps, at writing? At least M...

Taking Harry and N to see The Wind in the Willows at the West Yorkshire Playhouse was, I suppose, the last of the Christmas festivities. It was odd seeing the animals singing 'In the Bleak Midwinter' at the end of the first half and remembering that Christmas was still only just over a month ago. K and I both felt most sorr...

Ideas that have come floating in, as Joan Aiken said, like butterflies. Tuesday, December 30, 2003. During my run I had an idea for a story, sort of along tthe lines of a wise child having to work around a foolish parent, although hoping to develop it as I know this is becoming a hackneyed theme, and some of this story covers another idea I have had for a good two decades about a woman arriving in London. Ideas that have come floating in, as Joan Aiken said, like butterflies. Tuesday, April 13, 2004. The son of a family of four goes missing, causing heartbreak for his parents and sister, who launch an unsuccessful nationwide campaign to track him down. Many years later, long after the parents have died, the sister, now an unpopular single woman in her late 40s who people only vaguely remember when she mentions her surname, gets onto a train and finds her brother sitting opposite her.

Went to the doctor today because I was convinced, after ten days of pain, that I ended up with a broken rib after that mountain biking expedition. But I hadn't. I rather feared I had wasted his time. But he assured me I hadn't. It was the sporty one - he said he had had some kind of collision this weekend. Posted by Marziman : 6/21/2004 06:13:00 PM.

Needless to say, it hasn't happened as I write this. Posted by Marziman : 4/30/2004 06:12:00 PM. Thursday, April 29, 2004. Even with all the dullness that is my job at present, there can be an occasional spark of some interest. With a canteen with ten pristine coffee mugs and a tea towel that has been hung perfectly straight? The whole place was kept i...

Former diary writer takes to putting thoughts down on web instead. Likes the limitless space you get here, not like a scrap of A4. Sunday, February 29, 2004. Things haven't been so memorable more recently. But they will be now. Because this is our last day as a threesome, and N's last day as an only child. I took them down the tunnel that leads out of our dining room and at least 40 yards into the hillside behind our house. We have never been quite sure what the purpose of this tunnel is. I know the ...

Ideas that have come floating in, as Joan Aiken said, like butterflies. Friday, January 30, 2004. Had more thoughts about this. Dead' wife could turn up and reveal herself to a small company (at which the girlfriend is only slightly present). Then she could turn up later in the girlfriend's home and claim that she is only an impostor - but isn't she a good one? He gets released, but they argue, and eventually split up. But by this time she has given her money away. Posted by Marziman : 5:27 AM. Rachel Sm...
