A Flash of Inspiration: January 2012

Sunday, January 22, 2012. 2nd grade cubism guitars in oil pastel. So, first of all, I need to give credit to this blog for this lesson: http:/ greenbayartroom.blogspot.com/. This was done with 2nd graders! I showed them images of Picasso's Blue Period, Rose Period and Cubism Period. We talked about the differences between them and WHY would Picasso paint so "abstractly" when he was able to paint very realistically? It was a fun discussion! One class used grey paper and the other used brown. In the pa...

At The Easel: Piet Mondrian
http://attheeasel.blogspot.com/2011/03/piet-mondrian.html
An Elementary Art Education. Tuesday, March 22, 2011. Piet Mondrian and his artist friends created the movement, De Stijl. They wanted to paint in the simplest form, using the Primary Colors; red, yellow and blue and straight horizontal and vertical lines. To begin learning about color the second grade used the Primary Colors as well as horizontal, and vertical lines just like Mondrian. See more student Mondrian paintings here. An Elementary Art Education. Friday, April 15, 2011. The Chihuly pieces are finished and I am in the process of displaying them at both McGee and Tibbott. I absolutely love how they turned out. Posted by Sara Dougherty. Landscapes - Creating Deep Space. How do we create a sense of depth or space on a flat surface? That's the question I asked my second graders recently. They have been learning about foreground, middle ground, and background, and how to use these three areas to create space. Then add the d...

At The Easel: Dale Chihuly - Persian Project
http://attheeasel.blogspot.com/2011/03/dale-chihuly-persian-project.html
An Elementary Art Education. Thursday, March 24, 2011. Dale Chihuly - Persian Project. I love the glass work by the artist Dale Chihuly and I am always trying to find ways to incorporate or recreate his work in class. Of course, glass blowing is not an option. However, there are quite a few really cool materials out there to create projects similar. If you are not familiar with Chihuly watch the video. From the Early Show below. They discuss and demonstrate his process and techniques. MALINA WINDOW, 1993.

At The Easel: Chihuly in Progress
http://attheeasel.blogspot.com/2011/03/chihuly-in-progress.html
An Elementary Art Education. Tuesday, March 29, 2011. The second graders have colored and stiffened their Chihuly forms. I added one more coat of fabric stiffener today. They turned out so colorful. I was afraid the spray would weaken the color a bit, but as you can see they are very bright and vibrant. Next, I'll combine the forms into one installation. Posted by Sara Dougherty. COBB Family Communicator: June 2012
http://cobbfamilycommunicator.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
Tuesday, June 12, 2012. Here we are practicing at the rehearsal. I loved that dress. I loved how I put those ribbons together for the bouquet. I loved how long I had grown my hair. Ironically, I spent a long time growing out my hair just to pull it back for the wedding. Goofy. I think I pulled it back because we chose JUNE for a wedding. June wedding Houston = HOT! I think we look particularly young in this picture! Here we had only been married less than 5 minutes. Cutting our delicious cakes!
