Spanish Word A Day. Sunday, March 14, 2010. Competition for the supermarkets in Lanzarote as Lidl opens? Lidl opened it's doors in Lanzarote this week which has caused much interest. I have not been myself and doubt I will. However, on opening day there were hoardes of people trying to get into the store and in the end police had to attend the scene to manage the traffic and people who were queing to get in! But does Lanzarote need another supermarket? But are the smaller family supermarkets loosing out?
