An Ohio state of mind. Spelt Pumpkin Bread with Bourbon Soaked Raisins. As soon as the crisp chill of fall air can be felt and also can be smelled, inhaled, breathed deeply infused with the scent of crushed dryed leaves and fallen pine cones, as soon as I step out my front door and find myself swaddled by a cool autumn breeze, that's when my brain recalls fondly the warm, earthy orange hue of pumpkin. An Ohio state of mind. The Sound of Music. Was a stay-at-home-sick tradition for me. Today, I have been humming. The Sound of Music. With whole-wheat bread, smeared with Nutella, fresh strawberries, bananas, cinnamon, powdered sugar and homemade honey sweetend Snowville whipped cream. An Ohio state of mind. Two posts in one day, I know. But I really felt like I wanted to quickly share this little recipe I just whipped up for a single cup of hot chocolate. Hot Chocolate- Straight Up, One Cup. 1 TBS organic semi-sweet chocolate chips. 3/4 cup low-fat grass fed milk. 1 TBS grass fed half and half. 1 1/2 TBS. organic cane sugar. 1 TBS dutch cocoa powder. 1/2 tsp. vanilla. 6 or 7 grains of coarse sea salt, or literally the tiniest pinch you could manage of regular salt.

Syrup and Buckwheat Gingerbread. 2 cups organic whole-wheat flour. 1/4 cup organic buckwheat flour. 1 tsp baking soda. 1/2 tsp. natural sea salt. 2 tsps. ground ginger. 1 tsp ground cinnamon. 1/4 tsp. ground cloves. 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg. 1/3 cup extra-virgin olive oil. 1/3 cup pure, local maple syrup. 1/3 cup local raw honey. 1/2 cup dark molasses. 1 tsp pure vanilla extract. 1 large, overripe banana, mashed. 1 cup grass-grazed, organic milk.

Saturday, February 28, 2015. Growing on the Edge. Southeast of Columbus, a stone’s throw away from Athens, lies an organic farm that blurs the lines between the seasons, producing nutritious food year round. The story of Green Edge Gardens wasn’t without a few twists and turns along the way, but one thing has remained constant: the mission of providing local food, employing hard working Ohioans, and educating others who wish to follow suit. The Green Edge Gardens rutabaga (pictured left) traveled 83 miles.
