Sharing the thrill of the dig, the joy of the harvest, decadent eats, and profoundish musings along the way. Friday, May 15, 2015. Tom Yum Soup Recipe. Fragrant and distinct, the classic tom yum kung soup is a perfect blend of the most common Thai herbs and vegetables, many of which you may be able to grow in your own backyard. Don’t have it all going in your garden just yet? 6 cups chicken stock. 2 stalks lemongrass, cut into 5 inch sections, and bruised with a mallet. 4 kaffir lime leaves. Making luffa...
Greenish Thumb: Why Chinese Mothers are Superior
http://www.greenishthumb.net/2011/01/why-chinese-mothers-are-superior.html
Sharing the thrill of the dig, the joy of the harvest, decadent eats, and profoundish musings along the way. Wednesday, January 12, 2011. Why Chinese Mothers are Superior. I was so basically pissed off. And be outraged. Thank you in advance for reading my perspective too. As a Chinese daughter, a Chinese mother, and a school counselor, Amy Chua’s January 8. Article turns my stomach. As a Chinese mother myself, I am offended that she would justify her parenting by simply describing herself a Chinese mother.
Greenish Thumb: June 2015
http://www.greenishthumb.net/2015_06_01_archive.html
Sharing the thrill of the dig, the joy of the harvest, decadent eats, and profoundish musings along the way. Monday, June 1, 2015. A fateful string of events. About 10 years ago my father brought home a few white geese. A short while after that he drove hours to southern Virginia to pick up a pair of Chinese geese. These geese live a peaceful, good life with a safe shelter to rest in at night, and eight acres to roam during the day. The next question was, where would they go? Growing Chard in My Windowbox.

Secret Cottage Garden: September 2009
http://secretcottagegarden.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Dedicated to the garden spirits that live here. Monday, September 28, 2009. My tomato is still producing, despite the heat-damaged foliage. My leafy begonia did not survive the heat. I hope they will produce new leaves from the bulb. I keep watering them. The path the painters made through my bed to get at the side of the house. It will take some time for this to recover. There is some good news. Despite the heat some plants have fourished. Witness my peony rose. Four buds! Posted by Mary Delle LeBeau.

Secret Cottage Garden: Blue on Blue
http://secretcottagegarden.blogspot.com/2009/11/blue-on-blue.html
Dedicated to the garden spirits that live here. Saturday, November 28, 2009. My first 78 record was Blue on Blue when I was a teenager. I was never really fond of the song, but will never forget the title. Bobby Vinton was singing a song about having the blues. And this post is about the blues, but in my garden, inspired by Kiki at Awake with Charm and Spirit. First a huge thank you to two wonderful bloggers who have given me the best blog award. And from The Violet Fern. Echeveria in Blue Ceramic pot.

Secret Cottage Garden: LA Arboretum: Trees
http://secretcottagegarden.blogspot.com/2009/11/la-arboretum-trees.html
Dedicated to the garden spirits that live here. Friday, November 20, 2009. I love the strength and stature of a tree. They are the old and wise beings of the plant world. As they grow older their beauty shines in a new way. Some of the Arboretum trees had this sort of beauty. Pink or Silk Floss Tree. This tree's leaves are beginning to turn in autumn's coolness. This tree is unusual, as it has no living relatives, all others being extinct. It's extinct relatives can still be found as fossils....The silve...

An Obsessive/Compulsive plant collector: That dreadful plant- Butterfly vine.....
http://anobsessivecompulsiveplantcollector.blogspot.com/2011/05/that-dreadful-plant-butterfly-vine.html
An Obsessive/Compulsive plant collector. Thursday, May 5, 2011. That dreadful plant- Butterfly vine. Ancient one has complained about the honeysuckle vine that plagues her garden. I countered with my very worst problem, the Butterfly Vine. It does not freeze, stays green all year long. When it blooms, it is a lovely yellow blanket, and it blooms for a long time. I have never seen a seedling, so I suspect the seeds are sterile, BUT.it roots very easily, anywhere it touches the ground. Honeysuckle does at ...

One Plant at a Time. Maryland Gardener Zone 7. Digging into my thoughts and passions about My Gardens,Photography, Crafts, Life and my Family. Not so much in that order. Tuesday, August 24, 2010. The Vultures are starting to Circle the Garden! Yesterday Morning before heading out for a bit I noticed a bunch of Vultures circling around the Garden areas. Does this mean my garden has died and the stench is bringing in the local riff-raft? Are they here to pick up the pieces of my broken down flowers? And al...
