Just another WordPress.com site. Month: November, 2011. November 20, 2011. It came to me today how much of an inexact science history is. I was working on a piece about the whaling industry of the early 19th century when my researches uncovered material about the War of 1812. Remember that one? The point is not who won – after this length of time it hardly matters – but why do historians continue to distort the truth? Just a though: if we cannot trust historians with history, then what good are they?

I was working on a piece about the whaling industry of the early 19th century when my researches uncovered material about the War of 1812. Remember that one? The point is not who won – after this length of time it hardly matters – but why do historians continue to distort the truth? Surely history should be an assessment of reality, based on fact, rather than a natioanalisitic, cultural or moral statement?
