Tuesday, February 10, 2009. Every few years the red soil produces outstanding merlot. 2001 was such a year. The 2001 Merlot is exhibiting big plum and quince characteristics on the nose, with real spic of oak on the finish. This wine has spent 18 months in a combination of French and American oak but still the fruit dominates. Alcohol percentage: 12.5%. Drink with aperitif, cheese, duck, lamb, red meat, venison.
