Όπως λοιπόν μας λέει ο μύθος, η Αλκυόνη πριν γίνει πουλί ήταν μία πανέμορφη γυναίκα κόρη του Θεού των ανέμων Αίολου και της Ενάρετης. Η Αλκυόνη ήταν παντρεμένη με τον Κήυκα.Η ένωσή τους ήταν τέλεια κι ένιωθαν τόσο ευτυχισμένοι, ώστε να νομίζουν ότι δεν ήταν κοινοί άνθρωποι. Σιγά σιγά, άρχισαν να πιστεύουν ότι είναι ισάξιοι των Θεών. Όταν έμαθε η Αλκυόνη το γεγονός πήγε με αγωνία...
