One of the great benefits of being a printmaker, as opposed to a painter, say, is that we often come together to work in an open press situation and therefore readily form part of a practicing community. Throughout the course, I have tried as many materials and techniques as I could access. I have, for example tried copper sulphate etching, drypoint and contemporary woodcut and traditional Japanese woodcut. At life drawing this week, I wanted to try and retain the liveliness of mark making and sense of energy which I had found in drawing to music in Assignment 3. I find it very difficult to go into a life drawing session with any fixed ideas, but helpful to have thought about some sort of agenda. A2, Wolff carbon stick, 10 minutes. At 6:00 we meet carrying our bags of glowing flaccid balloons. Grab the air compressor and start pumping up some balloons. Matt mans the compressor and I keep stuffing lights into balloons.
