ZedCode: February 2006
http://zedcode.blogspot.com/2006_02_01_archive.html
My programming and my thoughts about programming in general. Saturday, February 25, 2006. We've been trying to get through some of the high priority bugs and various game-play changes in order to do a beta release this weekend in time for the previous beta expiring. One of the more difficult bugs that is outstanding on my list is a problem with the call-signs. They occasionally appear as garbage (although I've made the display routine just display '? Guess I should carry on with that call-sign bug. Addit...

My programming and my thoughts about programming in general. Saturday, May 20, 2006. Re-writing software from the ground up. There was an interesting article on Slashdot (normal warning: evil time-waster, etc) - but not interesting in my opinion for the reasons I think. First a link to the article:. Moving a Development Team from C to Java? Http:/ ask.slashdot.org/article.pl? It's related to a good (old) article by Joel . So what do I believe? Another good reason to re-write might be if you are doing it ...

My programming and my thoughts about programming in general. Wednesday, July 26, 2006. Do Robots Dream of Electric Fish? So since the last blog we've actually burned some programs in so that the robot wheels move! We have come up with a list of things that need to be fixing before we release from the play testing. We think we definately need to fix these and neither of us want to rush this out without is being playable. Who, us rush a game out? I had a week long trip to the U.S. for the 'day-job'...The D...

My programming and my thoughts about programming in general. Monday, January 30, 2006. Interesting Language Comparison Article. Stu highlighted this from Macintouch:. Http:/ www.dmh2000.com/cjpr/index.shtml. I'm pretty independant of language but this article was interesting. Regarding the statement: "Maybe its just me, but C always leaves you wondering what you might have done wrong." - Is this true? I'm not defending C here, to be honest I'm not sure what choice there is? Posted by RobZed at 10:00 pm.

My programming and my thoughts about programming in general. Thursday, September 29, 2005. A change of pace. Well, finally all the high priority issues and most of the medium priority issues of the weather decoders are fixed. Rest of the stuff is pretty trivial. It's taken a good amount of effort to get to this stage. All changes are booked in and awaiting the project lead to process, test and include them. Anyway, must code not blog. My programming and my thoughts about programming in general. Wednesday, August 31, 2005. My article "Speed Programming? Talked indirectly about the power of languages. This isn't the first time this subject has come up. For instance, last month I was discussing this very subject with a friend of mine. In the core of this particular debate was this old article http:/ www.paulgraham.com/avg.html. However, ignoring the fact that he chooses Lisp, is this argument valid? Conversely, I guess, quite often libra...

My programming and my thoughts about programming in general. Sunday, October 30, 2005. This is not a comprehensive list - just the things that come to mind right now. Classes. Having difficulty going back to C to do embedded work. My solution: try to convince everyone at day job to compile C code with a C compiler :-). Very like C (which has it's own positives and negatives.) but I know it well and I can use old code I have. Has a fairly good set of standard libraries as part of the language. I'm sure do...

My programming and my thoughts about programming in general. Wednesday, December 28, 2005. Space the first frontier. Just recently my primary focus (as you might have noticed) has been on doing changes for our old/new game. Bizarrely enough (or not) it's taking loads of time to sort out. Some close friends are helpfully play testing it. Although I wish they'd stop finding crash bugs! That's not quite true actually - I'm very grateful that they are. I just wish we didn't have any. My programming and my thoughts about programming in general. Monday, June 12, 2006. Play-testing and Robot compilers. Zex is currently under play test. It so easy, especially when you have a bugs list, to just fix bugs and think it's done. Part of the reason we do beta test releases is to get real play-test feedback. But it's critical that we actually use the software we are developing before doing alpha or beta test releases. Posted by RobZed at 11:03 am. Near Glasgow, United Kingdom. Forlorn Fox - 0...
