The Deptford Dame: July 2015
http://deptforddame.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Friday, 17 July 2015. Convoys Wharf - homes at last! I've been planning to write a post about all things Convoys Wharf for the last couple of months; events last weekend have finally given me the nudge I needed to actually get on with it. A day or so later they had relocated to the inside of the warehouse. I guess those doors just swung open in that windy weather we had. The gates on Grove Street are now wide open and the site has officially been declared a home by its current residents. The guards sit i...

The Deptford Dame: Asda coming to Deptford High Street
http://deptforddame.blogspot.com/2015/01/asda-coming-to-deptford-high-street.html
Wednesday, 14 January 2015. Asda coming to Deptford High Street. A tip-off last night alerted me to the licensing applications that are plastered all over 5-9 Deptford High Street (currently the cheap end of the row, the 99p Store). Apparently Asda is applying for a licence to sell alcohol from 7am to 12 midnight at the premises, suggesting that the 99p Store's days are numbered. So what will it mean for Deptford High Street, aside from the lurid green signage and even more places for cheap booze? Depend...

Goldsmith's College has submitted a planning application for conversion of the old water tanks and service areas of the listed Laurie Grove Baths into a new gallery space. The initial plans were revealed last year, and the design by Assemble Studio and Alan Baxter and Associates has just been submitted to Lewisham Council. A number of new gallery spaces will be created, including one in the old wat...

The Deptford Dame: New cafe/bike shop for Deptford High Street
http://deptforddame.blogspot.com/2015/05/new-cafebike-shop-for-deptford-high.html
Sunday, 10 May 2015. New cafe/bike shop for Deptford High Street. I've never really quite understood the thing about bike shops with cafes - it's a fact that both bikes and coffee play a major part in my life, but other than parking my bike outside a cafe to have a good strong cappuccino, I find myself somewhat stumped. The new shop is right next to Tesco on Deptford High Street, a unit which has been empty for some time, so it's great to see it being brought back into use. Some may suggest that the open...

The Deptford Dame: Deptford Broadway improvements: TFL consultation reports
http://deptforddame.blogspot.com/2015/06/deptford-broadway-improvements-tfl.html
Friday, 5 June 2015. Deptford Broadway improvements: TFL consultation reports. TFL has published a report. Into its consultation on proposed improvements to Deptford Broadway. The proposals were heavily criticised by Lewisham Cyclists. Who pointed out that not only did changes do little to improve conditions for cyclists, in some cases they made it more dangerous. According to TFL, the following changes have been made to the scheme:. According to TFL the works are intended to be carried out 'between June...

The Deptford Dame: Brockley street art festival
http://deptforddame.blogspot.com/2015/06/brockley-street-art-festival.html
Monday, 1 June 2015. Brockley street art festival. Late to the party on this one - I managed to miss it in my previous post about the Brockley Max festival, which is probably because I wouldn't immediately associate Brockley with street art. That's just my ignorance of course - I always think of leafy green avenues with expanses of Victorian mansions when I think of Brockley, but like most of London it's much more than that. There's a live map on the website. As well as profiles of all the artists. Deptf...

The Deptford Dame: Deptford Food Festival - third time lucky?
http://deptforddame.blogspot.com/2015/04/deptford-food-festival-third-time-lucky.html
Monday, 20 April 2015. Deptford Food Festival - third time lucky? Two years ago it was the Deptford Food Court. In Douglas Square - a weekly Saturday offering of street food traders and some entertainment, which was intended to be part of the high street re-invigoration and was paid for through the same funding source. The regenerated high street - look familiar? But now it's back! Reborn as the Deptford Food Festival! Will this be third time lucky? Let's hear the hype, such as it is:. Those with a sweet...

The Deptford Dame: New footbridge for Deptford Creek - at what cost?
http://deptforddame.blogspot.com/2013/07/new-footbridge-for-deptford-creek-at.html
Sunday, 14 July 2013. New footbridge for Deptford Creek - at what cost? This week Greenwich Council's planning board approved a planning application for a new swing bridge over the mouth of Deptford Creek. This is great news for pedestrians and cyclists using the Thames path, and once access along the front of New Capital Quay is fully open, will make the journey from Deptford to Greenwich so much more pleasant. Being entirely cynical it's easy to suggest that this is not a concern that Greenwich Council...

The Deptford Dame: February 2015
http://deptforddame.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 24 February 2015. Dig this nursery/puzzle organico - organic food shop in New Cross. Not quite in Deptford I know, but a great addition to local food shopping. I've often bemoaned the absence of any kind of health-food shop in Deptford, and the need to go to Greenwich for specific items you can't buy locally. I would buy the latter just for the packaging but it turns out they are also very tasty and much better than the insipid fruit teas that are often the only herbal drinks on offer. Quite...
