Greer's Place Kicking Blog. As the knee straightens out and contacts the ball, the follow-through phase begins. The head is kept down looking at the ball the whole time, even throughout the follow through. In doing this, it keeps the whole body balanced for the kick. (Lynch, 2015). Greer's Place Kicking Blog. Research states that the non-kicking side arm has a big impact in the accuracy and distance of the place kick. It is very important to integrate upper-body movement into kicking. All kickers should be encouraged to create upper-body motions throughout the place kick sequence. The non-kicking side arm are important for the accuracy of the kick and is really important for generating maximum speed. (Bezodis, 2007). This photo shows clearly my upper body movements in the kick.

Greer's Place Kicking Blog. For the kicker to be able to get the greatest distance and accuracy from a kick, they need to kick the ball in the ‘sweet spot’. The sweet spot is location approximately 1/3 of the way up the ball from the bottom. (Rugby.isport.com, 2015). Here is a picture to show the ‘sweet spot’.
