The Underdog's Corner: When life knocks you flat
http://greggbell1.blogspot.com/2015/05/when-life-knocks-you-flat.html
Friday, May 22, 2015. When life knocks you flat. Back to the storm. The windows were bowing. Plastered by angry rain. Butterflies racing through my stomach but I kept watching. Then a wind shear cut across the earth and—snap! 8212;one of the fully formed trees broke right off at the root. That was it. Where there once was a beautiful tree there was nothing. And the storm left leaving no apologies. Oh, maybe it's not the lean beautiful tree it once was. But it is. Thanks for stopping by. Amazon author pag...

The Underdog's Corner: Is spirituality real?
http://greggbell1.blogspot.com/2015/07/is-spirituality-real.html
Saturday, July 11, 2015. Picture by Moyan Brenn. It's all very appealing. As I continued to listen I thought, "Yeah, that's me. I don't fall for all the spiritual hype out there." And really who would? But is that the truth? Is spirituality a hoax? Is it simply explained by statistical analysis? The author gets into prophetic dreams. How there are so many dreams that we dream that simple statistical chance explains many of them being prophetic.). A good friend and I had made plans to play the last day it...

The Underdog's Corner: Is there such a thing as a mistake?
http://greggbell1.blogspot.com/2015/07/is-there-such-thing-as-mistake.html
Thursday, July 16, 2015. Is there such a thing as a mistake? And what's the opposite of a mistake? How come we don't have a term for it? Who decides if something is a mistake? When is the decision made? When is the decision final? A mistake is the vaguest of concepts. And yet it can be crippling emotionally if taken to the extreme. I made a mistake." Even "I am a mistake.". No, it's only in hindsight that the mistake label is slapped on. And even then it's not terribly reflective of reality. Truth is wha...

The Underdog's Corner: March 2015
http://greggbell1.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Wednesday, March 11, 2015. Why I decided to be myself. I decided to be myself because I got burned out trying to be somebody else. Despite my most intense striving not only was I getting nowhere in my life, I was going backwards. It was no great philosophical insight that led me to this conclusion. No, I had to get physically sick, near dying, to make the change. Be yourself. That's what I discovered. But weren't a lot of people unhappy that I changed my ways? I need to do? Because I found out being myse...

The Underdog's Corner: November 2014
http://greggbell1.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Wednesday, November 19, 2014. Does thinking about dying help you live? Nobody really likes to think about death? But what if thinking about it can help you. Then it's worth thinking about. I'm finishing up listening to Walter Isaacson's biography Steve Jobs. I can imagine we'll all go through something similar. But is there a way to use that knowledge of death now? Now, before we get the bad news from the doctor? I remember this quote from a Buddhist text. It was:. Isn't it the truth? Links to this post.

The Underdog's Corner: October 2014
http://greggbell1.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, October 5, 2014. What's the "just right" amount of description in fiction? Writing description is perilous. Write too little and it's as if your characters are wandering around in a void. Write too much and the reader puts the book down and goes online to check the weather. What's a writer to do? No worries. Here's how to know how much description to use. There you have it. Oh, you want a little elaboration? All right then. :). When your character enters a scene what does she see? On the floor ne...

The Underdog's Corner: What's your gift?
http://greggbell1.blogspot.com/2015/07/whats-your-gift.html
Sunday, July 19, 2015. Not just your talent, but what's your gift to the world? Do you have one? Here's my take on the after-life. We all have one. (Of course, I don't know. That) I think heaven or hell is going to be our memories. How did we live? What did we do? Did we die rich, fat and happy? Reputation as a shrewd businessperson? Big winners at the game of life? Shaking head I don't know about you but I wouldn't want to be thinking about that for eternity. I'd want to be thinking about what I gave.
