Thoughts on...: Training/Mileage

http://www.gregphilosophy.blogspot.com/2007/06/trainingmileage.html

Thursday, June 7, 2007. Ultrarunners come in all different stripes- as many runners as there are, you'll inevitably find as many theories about how to prepare for 100-mile races and beyond. I've learned a lot about my body over the last two decades of running and competing. I have a few strengths and plenty of weaknesses. But at least I'm now able to identify them. Thoughts on...: Nutrition

http://www.gregphilosophy.blogspot.com/2007/06/nutrition.html

Monday, June 4, 2007. I could write volumes on my nutritional viewpoint. But in a nutshell. I chose to employ a vegetarian lifestyle in 1991. In 2006, for a variety of factors, I made the decision to start consuming regular portions of wild salmon. The vegetarian lifestyle served me well for many years, offering what I believe to be optimal athletic performance and health. At times, eating as a vegetarian can be challenging, especially during international travel (or when visiting Chicago! In over 20 yea...

Tuesday, October 4, 2011. Four Days to Furnace Creek. Four days until the Pheasant wheels past the starting line of the Furnace Creek 508! I'm as ready as I can be. Logistics have fallen into place, and all there's left to do is ride 508 miles and climb over 35,000 feet. I had a wonderful show of support today from a local Portland business, Tri-D Fitness. A reminder. here's the link to the webcast. For this weekend's race. Many thanks for all of your support! Posted by Greg Pressler.

Tuesday, June 9, 2009. After a trip to Disneyland in California a few years ago, I (Greg) swore that I'd never visit the “friendliest place on earth” ever again. But what is a parent to do when two sets of young, sad, cute eyes look up at you and plead to visit the European version of Mickey's home? Relent, I guess. Stacey stayed with us for the first day before jumping o. N the train to the center of Paris to join up with some friends. We took advantage of every moment within the park. I thought for som...

Tuesday, July 22, 2014. This is my new personal slogan. When we "prioritize," we put something at the top of our list; we make it the most important thing; we fast-track a task; we do it first; we set aside all other things; we delay things that can wait; we send it via courier; we make haste; we reshuffle the deck; we hit the re-set button; we objectively look at everything on our to-do list and re-order it. Prioritize Awesomeness, and you will no doubt have a much better idea of your next best move.

Thursday, October 23, 2014. A song I wrote in January, 2014. I will my legs to go. Keep it together when head says no. Been to the lowest of lows. Frozen numb and thinkin hurts. You gotta find your way. When your map is lost. Somebody stole the sign. Try to keep it together. And don't lose it. Torch is on the fritz. It's when the doubt. Creeps faster til it's. Hitched a free ride. Follow the footsteps and. They will lead you. I ain't looking to mine gold. Just trying to get to where I'm going.

Saturday, March 29, 2014. Arrowhead 135 Ultramarathon.2014 race report. During the boarding of the flight from Minneapolis, a nice woman had seen my big mittens and correctly surmised I was an Arrowhead participant. She kindly offered a ride to the motel, saving me a 2-mile walk in VERY cold weather. Just before 7am, we headed outside and started promptly behind the 100 cyclists and the TWO xc skiers. Once on the trail, I settled into a steady early pace as I watched the sun rise to my left. Purp...The f...

Monday, June 27, 2011. Badwater, redux: 2011. In July of 2007, I finished what was the most difficult endurance event I had ever entered, the Badwater Ultramarathon. For 135 miles through Death Valley, California in the searing heat- where temperatures crest 120 degrees F- I made my way from the dry lake bed of Badwater to the slopes of Mt. Whitney. I had a good day and finished in 13th place. As we start another version of the race. Simple, but not easy. Also supporting my race efforts are a number of c...

Wednesday, April 22, 2009. Our European adventure continued in early April with a trip to a long-anticipated destination: Sunny Portugal. After an early-morning arrival in Lisbon,. We grabbed a cab to our home for the next 3 days, a beautiful apartment in the city center. We've stayed in. Some hard-to-find locations before, but this one took the cake—. Even the cab driver, a 30-year veteran,. Had to consult his maps. But we were again pleasantly surprised with the digs, a beautiful 2-story flat with.
