Welcome to my blog. It's like Valhalla's jewel-encrusted reading room. Skip to primary content. July 15, 2014. Well, at least one of us is writing. Corinne just finished her first paper for her English class. (FYI, my wife is currently kicking the shit out of the Marketing program at the College of Saint Scholastica.) I love it. It’s honest, it’s introspective, it’s interesting. And so, without further adieu, I give to you a 730-word narrative of awesomeness:. The Day I Was Born. Tossed my way. It wa...

Welcome to my blog. It's like Valhalla's jewel-encrusted reading room. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Monthly Archives: May 2013. What I would say if I were Claudia. May 15, 2013. I’ve said it before (though maybe not in these exact words): 8th grade offers a higher concentration of social confusion, awkwardness and all-around nasty crap than any other year known to humanity. And that’s on its own. It doesn’t need tragedy to make it more challenging. No big deal just run-of-the-mill ...

Start small if you’ve got to, but do something. August 29, 2013. It’s been a quiet summer here in The Nothing Box. How long has it been since I posted, you ask? I had to have Corinne remind me how to log in. That’s bad. Or Saint John’s University. Can make a real difference). And I don’t have a ton of spare time… Okay, let’s be hon...I want to start mak...

Welcome to my blog. It's like Valhalla's jewel-encrusted reading room. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. August 1, 2014. Today is Corinne’s 43rd birthday. It’s also her last day earning a salary for the foreseeable future. So you see, we don’t always get what we deserve. Most of us who worked at the company that was once known as Creative Memories have seen that. Screw it. It is what it is. Move on. She’s scared but fighting. And I’m not being much of any help because I&...I didn’...

Dese Two Utes – Greg Skoog
http://gregskoog.com/2014/06/10/dese-two-utes
June 10, 2014. October 2, 2015. Yes, thank you, I’m aware that this is a crappy image. It’s the best I could find of me and Todd. I’ve still got that Twins cap, BTW. True story. When I was 18 I spent a week without my drivers license. It wasn’t lost. I knew right where it was. It was just suspended. At the time, I blamed The Man. I’m older and wiser now. I blame Todd Agnew. If you don’t know Todd and you happen to be in the market for a top-notch field-trained spaniel, I suggest you contact him. I, on th...

August 1, 2014. September 30, 2015. Today is Corinne’s 43rd birthday. It’s also her last day earning a salary for the foreseeable future. She deserves a better birthday. She deserves a better result after 13 years of bleeding CM blue (well, 12 years of bleeding CM blue and one year of bleeding A&Z “that’s not pink, it’s berry”). And she deserves a better tribute than this crappy blog post. She’s scared but fighting. And I’m not being much of any help because I’m scared and frozen in...I didn’t feel...
Rule #1: Don’t forget your water bottle – Greg Skoog
http://gregskoog.com/2014/06/09/rule-1-dont-forget-your-water-bottle
Rule #1: Don’t forget your water bottle. June 9, 2014. October 2, 2015. Hell no, I don’t shave my legs. To be an effective, efficient cyclist and get the most enjoyment out of your cycling experience, there are many, many rules and tips. Always wear an ANSI-approved helmet. Shift before you feel. Pedal like you’re scraping dog shit off your shoes. But the paramount rule is this: Don’t forget your water bottle. No biggie. It’s dry, calm and 70 degrees out. I can do this. I just got thirsty. When I first r...

Greg's Kitchen Shelf
A blog devoted to cook books, food science books and foodie fiction in print and on film. Monday, June 20, 2011. I have long since lost Lars’ recipe, but this version from James Peterson’ wonderful book is very similar if not identical. Make a big pot of this on a cool spring night when the artichokes are still fresh, and you will want for nothing. From Glorious French Food: A Fresh Approach to the Classics. Artichokes overnight with a little lemon juice to bleach them. 2 tablespoons olive oil. Variation...

Greg's Kitchen Slave | I make the good stuff. He eats it.
I make the good stuff. He eats it. Greg's Kitchen Slave. April 10, 2012. This is one of my favorite recipes. It’s adapted from what my mom would make for us when we were growing up. Primary difference is that mine has a hell of a lot more booze in it. Greg would love to demand this meal weekly. Servings: 4 Prep time: 15 minutes Cook time: 45. 15 lbs. top sirloin beef – cut across grain in 1 inch x 2-2.5 inch strips. 1 large yellow onion – quartered and sliced. 1 large clove garlic – minced. Once the vegg...

Hand-made, high-quality, custom pool cues. Laquo; Older Entries. After playing billiards for many years and purchasing several custom cues, I thought it would be interesting to make a cue on my own. Being a professionally trained machinist with manufacturing background gave me a good start in knowing how to construct and assemble a cue. Using the best materials available and my knowledge of machining, I am able to produce approximately 10-15 cues per year, all of which are hand made.
