The Gregson Collection is a varied assortment arising from Michael Gregson’s interests in family and local history in and around Warcop, Cumbria. Michael had traced the Gregson, Brindle, Wilkinson and Bardgett family trees back over four hundred years. As with all collections oddities creep in like Michael’s Boy Scout uniform, a wall hanging depicting a country scene with a water wheel, and a 4 foot diameter copper tray ploughed up by a local farmer, origin unknown!

The Gregson Family have been living in the Eden Valley area for over 400 years. Michael Gregson has enjoyed researching his ancestors back that far using local Parish Registers. Michael is the 5th generation shopkeeper for the Warcop shop. Michael married Valerie Brindle in 1959 in Kirkby Stephen Parish Church,. Valerie and her mother Frances Brindle ran a drapery and baby’s clothes shop in Kirkby Stephen. Michael and Valerie have three children Andrew, David and Stephen.

Michael Gregson Mickle Vale Warcop, died peacefully at his home on Friday 1. August aged 79 years after a long illness bravely borne. Michael was dearly loved by his family, and was respected by many for his collection of artefacts and memorabilia built up over his lifetime.
