Research & Writing. Greg Whistance-Smith, M.Arch, is an interdisciplinary scholar and designer rooted in Edmonton. Additionally, I’ve been involved in the independent videogames scene since 2007 as a hobbyist designer/developer. The expressive potential of this new medium is immense, and it shares a number of striking and under-appreciated parallels with architecture. I can be reached at gwhistancesmith [at] gmail [dot] com. The theme was ‘Ritual’, and a generating idea for this was the ritual of returning to a place from memory. In March of 2013 I made some significant modifications to the nature of the work’s interactivity, and I think the experience is better as a result. Also, I highly recommend downloading the free. Research & Writing. On Mar 6, 2013 in Interactive. January, the month named after the Roman god Janus. A god of thresholds between past and future, here and there, he is depicted as having a head bearing two faces staring simultaneously forward and back. January is a short piece of interactive fiction about parallels that I co-authored with my friend agj. I’m not all that happy with my text, but it was an attempt, and a solid one for only a few hours. You can play January in your browser here.

Research & Writing. On Jul 28, 2014 in Interactive. Is a set of game vignettes created for the makega.me Series. Pageant. These vignettes were intended to capture some of my feelings towards spaces in Halifax, the city I studied architecture in from 2010-2014. The games lack audio, having been thrown together rather quickly. One of the three reuses the photos-of-a-path system I devised for Return, and none of them have a win-condition. It’s just a visual effect that my client wanted to implement in the website they were commissioned. But I think it’s a pretty nifty one. The site’s links are distributed in an array of rectangular picture crops of different proportions, which stretch and compress according to mouse input. So of course I did just the programming for this one. That’s all!

ONE FINE DAY

Saturday, April 03, 2010. Posted by 鬼鬼 @ 1:33 PM. Sunday, March 28, 2010.
