Looking Out from Central Massachusetts. Viewpoints on nature, photography and other stuff by Sheila Carroll. Monday, July 14, 2014. We first saw the adult sitting on the nest on May 23rd. We checked on and off for several weeks and first noticed her gone from the nest around the 4th of July. We talked with a woman who had been watching the nest as well and that pretty much coincided with her records. Here's a shot of the parent with the young loon on July 8th. Here are the two chicks we found on July 5th.

Our final trip of Mark's Spring Migration class for MAS Broad Meadow Brook was held on the Saturday of the long Memorial Day weekend. We travelled out to the southern Berkshires to try a route through Beartown. State Forest and back through the Tyringham. Mountain Road. Within 5 minutes we had our first Louisiana Waterthrush.

Saturday, February 18, 2012. Townsend's Warbler - Ipswich. And here is the normal range of the Townsend's Warbler. How did this bird end up in Mass? Will it return to its normal range?
