It would seem from the census records, that the first occupant of any of the three properties which now make up The Grosvenor Plymouth, was Sarah Margaret Bull, nee Varley, a widow. Elliot Street formed part of the Hoe Fields Estate, which was built on the site of two fields formerly owned by Colonel John Elliot, Lieutenant Colonel of the East India Company.
