Garden Nut - grow and eat

Garden Nut - grow and eat. Saturday, 26 January 2013. Over the years I've accumulated  a fairly large array of gardening tools. So here's a few that I wouldn't be without. 2 I have 3 hoes - largely because I've needed some for a specific job. 160;      B. The one in the middle - also a Spear and Jackson - is good for chipping weeds out, leveling the ground, digging trenches for sowing seeds and hilling up spuds etc. Of the 3 I use the middle one the most. Garden Nut - grow and eat: My garden today

http://www.growfreshveg.blogspot.com/2012/05/my-garden-today.html

Garden Nut - grow and eat. Friday, 11 May 2012. I can't believe it. I planted peas just 4 weekends ago - the bloody things have pods on them. I have garlic bouncing out of the ground - 4 varieties - about 6 or 7 dozen. Several hundred onions in brown, red and white. I've got more  bok choy  than I can use, along with cabbage - nearly ready to pick, lettuce, other greens - my asparagas looks good as well. Anyway - 2 days - no aphids - a worthwhile lesson and fascinating to watch them eating the bugs.

Garden Nut - grow and eat: Nutrition 5. Sulphur

http://www.growfreshveg.blogspot.com/2012/05/nutrition-5-sulphur.html

Garden Nut - grow and eat. Thursday, 10 May 2012. Nutrition 5. Sulphur. Sulphur (chemical symbol S) makes about 0.2% of dry weight of the plant. Nevertheless it is a critical major nutrient because without enough S you won't get enough value out of your nitrogen. N S = protein - you need them both for the plant to function properly. You can get sulphur from sulphate of Potash or sulphate of ammonia (24% S) or gypsum (17 - 24% S). There are very low quantities in manures and compost. What Im planting now.

Garden Nut - grow and eat: Nutrition 6. Soil pH

http://www.growfreshveg.blogspot.com/2012/05/nutrition-6-soil-ph.html

Garden Nut - grow and eat. Friday, 11 May 2012. Nutrition 6. Soil pH. Whilst not stictly "nutrition" pH is an important part of supplying nutrients to the plant. PH is the measurement of hydrogen ions in the soil. As you lose nutrients from the soil, they are replaced by hydrogen - the most available element on earth. Losses can occur from leaching or removal and is an ongoing process. As you garden the pH decreases. The pH scale goes from 1.0 to 14.0 with 7.0 being neutral. As the pH drops nutrients suc...

Garden Nut - grow and eat: April 2012

http://www.growfreshveg.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

Garden Nut - grow and eat. Sunday, 29 April 2012. It amazes me that people will use mulch in their gardens, but not in their veggie patch. Having put water on the garden, you don't want it to evaporate. Keeps weeds at bay. Keeps the soil cool in summer and warm in winter. The downsides of mulch are:. It can Harbour bugs - slaters and snails. It can contain weeds which are a pain. There are a number of mulches I use and most of them end in hay or straw. C)  pea hay - worth it's weight in gold. Ea...I tend...

A greenhouse represents a significant investment in your family’s health, your home’s value and the planet’s future. Visionary economists and environmentalists alike predict that, as “the village” becomes the key unit of commerce and governance around the world, more and more families will return to “family farming.”.
