Growing & Foraging

Monday, 7 March 2011. So, after a period of being miserably ill I finally got to my allotment yesterday. My Mum came and helped me plot out where each of the beds will be so that I can avoid walking on them and start tramping down the very uneven ground where the paths will be. We took our little sticks and hundreds of metres of string and ferreted away, must remember to upload a photo. I have got enough room to allow me to have a myriad of fruit beds on the plot though and this makes me really happy!

Monday, 7 February 2011. Chitting (preparing for planting). Unpack the potatoes and place into a seed tray, shallow box or egg boxes with the end showing the most eye/shoots facing upwards. Keep in a light, cool but frost free area so they produce short, stubby 'chits' or shoots. Plant potatoes once the soil has started to warm and all risk of frost has passed. Plant with the shoots facing upwards. Plant 4-6 inches / 10-15cm deep. Plant 12-18 inches / 30-45cm apart in your rows. 8 Great for Salads. Great...
