Growing a STEM Classroom: STEM Break with Water Marbles

http://www.growingastemclassroom.blogspot.com/2015/02/stem-break-with-water-marbles.html

Wednesday, February 18, 2015. STEM Break with Water Marbles. Who doesn't love water marbles? Kids and adults alike are totally fascinated with these little water-loving (hydrophilic) beads! You can find these beads on-line, at the dollar store (check the floral aisle), or even at a toy store. I buy them in bulk on ebay! Click here for the free google doc of this STEM Break! For this STEM Break, I gave each classroom a pack of dry water marbles. They added their own container and water, of course!

Sunday, March 29, 2015. Finding the S in STEM.with a Freebie to Use Today! I am often asked about the science behind the STEM challenges and while I could write a quick blurb to explain it, I feel like we may be losing an authentic opportunity to give students the chance to do some real research based on what they are actually learning! Talk about real-world learning, rigor and critical thinking! All three are wrapped up in this natural extension of doing a STEM Engineering Challenge. STEM BREAK with Col...

Growing a STEM Classroom: STEM Break with Seed Sponges

http://www.growingastemclassroom.blogspot.com/2015/02/stem-break-with-seed-sponges.html

Monday, February 23, 2015. STEM Break with Seed Sponges. I cannot believe it will soon be spring, and spring makes me think of growing plants! This activity is a great one to use in the month of March! The materials are pretty simple and I got everything from my local dollar tree! You will need paper plates, cellulose sponges, and seed packets. We used radishes, lettuce, and grass seeds. Any tiny sized seeds will do! Click here for the link to the STEM Break google doc. Little Piece of Tape: June 2014

Tuesday, June 24, 2014. Tech Trick - Using Thinglink in the Classroom. I was busy, busy this year learning new technology tools, trying them out, and seeing what worked in the classroom. I LOVE anything that enhances what I already do and makes learning a little more engaging for the kids. So, when I learned about using Thinglink at a CUE Rockstar Teacher Camp. So first, what is Thinglink. I can't wait for my next Thinglink. I saw this great idea on Pinterest for a group photo from Ephotozine. I thought ...

Teach A La Carte - Blog

http://www.teachalacarte.com/blog.html

Teach A La Carte. Highlighting What Matters Most. Jamie, a fellow Elementary Literacy Specialist, was with me at a literacy training and of course we were SO excited to participate in an activity that would get us up and moving! Yank Me was the game that we had to master; and while Jamie had made it a point to show off her mastery skills, it didn't all pan out once the cameras were rolling! This experience, though, had me wondering what do teachers really highlight in their classrooms? The process of lea...
